Nice work man! We actually did this to my mom's Mitsubishi truck when I was a kid. My old man put the truck on a lift and luckily the vice grips did most of the fold then flattened it with the sledge and power sanded it to smoothen it out.

Good job! I did the pinch weld mod too after I upsized tires to 265/65R/17 and got a slight rub on both sides (as I was expecting). I already had 11/2" front lift and 11/2" wheel spacers. I used a heat gun to reshape the wheel liners some before securing to the wheel well with a screw on each side. After done I had about 1/2" of clearance for the tires on both sides but my tires are a little smaller than yours.

@@ExtremeDailyDrivers I found that reshaping just before I put the secure screw while still warm made it a lot easier to get the screw set where I wanted it. At first I tried shaping it ahead of time but when it cooled it kept going back to it's original shape.

Do you have a link to the plastic clips you used to replace the Mopar clips when re-installing the wheel well?

No. You can buy them at any auto parts store.

To keep mines from not rubbing I had to put a wheel spacer in between to bring the wheel out just an inch 1/2 I recommend you put a wheel spacer and you will get that little bit you need maybe a half inch hope that can work for you I know it works for me

Thanks for the tip! I was considering a 5mm spacer thinking it would be enough. I don't want to run the bolt on spacers. So far the rubbing is gone unless I'm performing a tight u-turn, but still haven't tested it off road. Thanks for watching!

Awesome video. I will be doing this soon to my commander. Do you know what mm size those fender clips are? Going to be ordering some and I don’t know if I should get the 9mm or 10mm fender clips or if those will be too big.

It's necessary if you want to run 265/70/17 tires. My issue is that I'm limited with my factory upper control arm setup. I will be installing new upper control arms in an upcoming video. That will allow me to apply more caster to my alignment, which will allow the front tire to move forward and away from the pinch weld. Make sure you sub so you don't miss that video. What type of fender clips did u use?

They are generic clips for Japanese cars. They fit perfectly and are reusable. Just go to any auto parts store and you will find them.

Did you have a lift at all? And which one, I just did the Rough Country 2.5” front and 1.5” rear and was getting ProComp AT 265/70/17

Hmmmm, I won't be able to cut my body, in NZ we send a vehicles in to the mechanic to do a Warrant of Fitness to ensure they are safe to drive on our roads, if they ever found out I cut the body it'll be and expensive repair or they will permanently right it off the road, ill probably stick with 265 65 17 to ensure no rubbing, great job on yours, I give you this you put in the work mentally and physically 👍 👏

@jeeploggernz2289 just wondering how you went with the 265/65/R17 tyres. I’m in the same boat in Australia and not too keen on doing the pinch weld mod (although others have done it) Did your tyres fit without rubbing ? I have a 46mm lift with Koni heavy track shocks front and back and Dobinson springs with a JBA upper control arm fitted. Not too sure I can get the 265/65/17 to fit??

@Jim Tertipis hay how's it going Jim, I'm still on the prowl for one, all our Commanders over here have high ks and mostly 4.7s, I really want a 09-10 Black with the Hemi, probably asking for a miracle haha, so you're having doubts with the 265s and 2 inch lift, hmmm that's not sounding too good, whats you're thoughts on maybe grinding down that lip, just enough for the tyres to fit, then underbody seal to hide it all

@@logger711 Thanks for your reply. Over here in Australia we don’t see many Commanders and currently there are 3 available nationally - all with the 3.0L TD, but you do sometimes see the odd V8. Mine is a black one that I bought with 119k km. Currently it’s just clocked over 140k km. It’s been a darn good car. I sized up a 265/65/17 at a tyre shop and I didn’t look like it would fit as is despite my lift. Also I don’t think this size would fit in the spare position. I have a Haymen Reese tow bar and there is just enough room to fit the standard 245/65/17. I’ve heard of people having a 265/65/17 under there but they have it flat and sometimes with a strap around it. You’d have to keep a compressor in the car just in case you need it. I’ve thought of putting a long range tank there and fitting a rear wheel carrier to hold the larger tyre but that is all quite expensive. I’m thinking I might have to go for a 255/65/17 if I don’t want any trouble. Not much of a increase in tyre size. But certainly I’m very happy indeed with the way it currently handles. It’s like chalk and cheese compared to the stock set up. I’ll let you know how I go. Good luck with the car hunting. A HEMI would be worth the wait. Too bad we are not in the US. They don’t have the diesels there. That option wasn’t for their market. I still recommend the diesel. It is a Mercedes benz motor and 5 speed auto. A but thirsty but plenty of grunt and reliable.

@Jim Tertipis ok that's good to hear you're quite happy with it, I had a WJ grand cherokee Overland with H.O 4.7, had her for 8yrs with next to no issues, 2" lift 265 65 17s, so yeah was very impressed with that and with all these extreme weather events I want a lifted Commander with Quadra Drive 2, it's meant to be haha, yes please definitely let me know how you're tyres go, Hay where or what do I search for Commanders in Oz, is there like a main website where most sell their vehicles
