How to Do Transitions in Final Cut Pro

as an avid editor....can fcp quickly let you choose a transition position...before, central or after a cut?

@@StupidRaisins in Avid, rather than just cantered on a cut...the transition can be before or after the cut.

​@@ProfSimonHolland I'm trying to visualize a transition before or after the cut. It seems to miss the point of a transition to see the cut and then have a transition of the same media. What am I missing? You can't move the position of a transition in FCP. You put it in between 2 clips and you can change when one clip ends and the other starts. You can also change the duration of the transition.

Newbie here.... I have clips above and in the storyline and I want to switch back and forth with transitions.... what topic should I be studying? Do I have to "disable" parts of a clip and add transitions to parts that are not disabled? I want to keep the storyline clips and "bounce" back and forth to/from the clips above the storyline but with added transitions. What topic is this called if anything?
