Your approach is very simple to understand. I recently started cello lessons, and vibrato is something I want to figure out. Your video is the ONLY one I have found on youtube with someone showing vibrato, actually playing, while demonstrating the techniques. I have seen videos with a lot more likes, but they never show vibrato in action while playing, they simply demonstrate. Your video should have a lot more likes, as it is an actual demonstration of how it sounds using the techniques. Thank you for showing this. I hope I can master this soon.

Great Tutorial! You've helped me a lot in all of my cello playing.

Much appreciate your clarity and common-sensical, adaptively oriented suggestions and admonitions. One item I have never seen addressed in the myriad vibrato (and other) cello tutorials I've seen is the issue of "securing" the cello while vibrato-ing -- it seems to me that there needs to be some pressure from the knees on the cello so the force of the fingers on the string and fingerboard effectively are directed there and not transferred into motion of the cello body. Yes? Thanks!

I'm just learning so correct me if I'm wrong. The science behind vibrato is a rapid action of the finger tip resulting in a semi-rapid albeit minute shortening and lengthening of the string being played which causes the actual pitch of the string to oscillate, creating the effect. The actual finger tip remains fixed on the string while the flesh beneath the skin of the finger tip (between the finger print and the finger bone) rolls back and forth or forward and backward depending on the angle of the finger relative to the fingerboard. It is this rolling of the flesh between the skin of the fingertip and the finger bone itself which moves the point of string compression back and forth thus shortening and lengthening the string. It is not an actual sliding of the finger on the string. This is my understanding. Is this correct?
@virtualsheetmusic5 жыл бұрын
Yes, thats' correct. You got it right!

Thank you for the help and lesson. Why is my 1st position pointer finger B, E, A, D so hard to vibrato? Is it a wrist trick or should I just let the thumb off? Finding it hard to wiggle unlike in 4th position. Many thanks again.

I have frozen joints and tend not to be able to create the vibrato. There is nothing that will loosen them up. They've had surgery on them. Any suggestions? Shoulder and elbow problems too. I will not quit!😊 Tried violin but couldn't bend my arm or fingers. Still play guitar and piano. Any suggestions? Thanks! Play for church.
