Another wonderfully informative video! I have a different approach to creating a border which some may find useful: When making this pattern (or any pattern with pick-up sticks) with left and right borders of plain weave, I simply slide the pick-up stick to the left and release the problematic threads on the right, then to the right to release the problematic threads on the left. When I've completed the last down shed in the sequence, I put the heddle back to the down position and simply place the pick-up stick under the appropriate threads for the other portion of the sequence. Everything's all set to go for the next up shed. If, as in your example here, the border weft threads are the same color as the waffle weave (or other) pattern, the weft threads can have a small loop of yarn tied around them (behind the reed) to indicate which threads have to be released and later recaptured. There's no need to count threads each time. Unfortunately, this is much more difficult to describe with words than it is to demonstrate. I hope this helps!

Hi Kelly, I’m wondering, would this also work by only picking up the warp threads for the pattern, leaving the outside border threads alone? Maybe not, I obviously have no idea. I hope I make sense.

That is basically what I've done, but with that second step in the sequence the border then doesn't work. Unless I've misunderstood your question?

@@KellyCasanova What you've done is pick up each 'down' thread for the border. I think what T Secord means is, to not pick up any of the border threads with the pick up stick at all, but the just warp ends for the central waffle block. But my brain can't quite compute what that does when you follow the pattern! I think the heddle neutral/stick forward and on end would then be tricky? My first thought would be to use a second heddle for that pick, essentially treating it like a traditional weaving block on a table loom. Or a separate pickup stick for just the border 'down' ends, that can also move forward with the main stick for the other stick pick. What do you think?
