Thank you for these videos! I’m currently in my second year of doing A-level English lang/lit, been stressing out but these videos have helped, especially the Othello overview as I was loosing track of the basic plot through all of the language details and subtle context haha

Ahh really?! Well the English dept at college are 10/10, so definitely speak to them about lit, whoever your teacher is! I only know about lit really and I would say reread your texts for first year, get the york notes for each of them, do practice essays a lot and pay attention to feedback! is there anything specific about lit that you know you're not sure on? Don't be discouraged, on my first year I got BBCU lol, but I got A*AB, you've got a whole year to work on it!

emilia yeah I definitely will, I have clare, she's an angel! And I have just got the york notes for each text and I haven't done many past papers this year, accept the ones clare set as I couldn't really find any and I think with English it's just the fact that I haven't really made many resources over the year so now I'm kind of panicking, but thank you, and well done with your results!! X

Thank you! For Othello you could definitely just find a section of the play and plan out an answer, but the others are a little difficult to find sometimes. I think the best thing to do it keep collecting quotes for all the themes and making sure you can remember them and how to use them! Ah, I already miss Clare and Christine, and Justin ofc lol. You've got a whole year, don't you worry! And you had more time on Othello Keats etc bc you didn't do Gatsby so that's even better!

emilia Yeah! Thank you for the advice and justin is a god! He doesn't even teach me and he's got me through this year ☺️ Good luck with uni! X

My mark just came in for my AS English Literature.... 73%. It's the most irritating thing, because if I want an "A" as my overall mark I HAVE to get at least 87% on my A-level so it averages at >80%. What would you suggest to really stretch myself in order to achieve a high A, or an A*?
@danielhartridge14927 жыл бұрын
btw I should note I'm a student from South Africa, so our AS and A levels are seperate exams.

Ah okay well, I would talk to your teacher and find out if there's anything specific that you need to look out for. In terms of getting As/A*s, the biggest thing I think its being thorough but succinct, so in an essay you've got to cover all the main points and pretty much consider everything that could possibly be considered. That sounds vague, but really when you're making an argument you need to leave no stone unturned, i.e. can you say anything to do with the theme? Could your argument be flipped? Are there suggestions elsewhere which support or contradict your point? (Thats under evaluating your points which I think is in the mark scheme). Have you linked context both of the production of the text and within the text? Basically I think it's whatever you bring up in your argument has to be thoroughly examined *in relation to your point*. Hope that's helpful! Also, thank you!
