I do mine similar but leave the end about twice that long. Then with a pocket screwdriver I work the cut end underneath the wrapped portion and bury it.

This is a decent tip. Safety wire on the grips saved me one good time. That one time was enough for me to do it again!

2 points you missed: better to clamp the 2 wires in the MIDDLE of the pliers, not the tip, so it makes a clean barber pole twist, rather than spinning one wire around the other. And when you have the little "tail", before you bend them into the grip rubber, use the tip of the pliers to bend the tip into a curve/bow, so when you plus the tail flat into the rubber, the sharp tip is dug into the rubber rather than into your gloves. I also prefer to do it "Yoshimura"style by using one long piece of wire where you loop and twist one band around, but twist about 2" of finished length of wire. Then push or hammer the bend 90 degrees, and where the twisted part ends, wrap/twist the remainder of the wire around the grip in that second location, end as normal. Then you only have one sharp end of wire to risk catching a glove. Tap the wire with a hammer to embed it all into the rubber so it is low profile.

Don't use glue. A lil spit into the grip will slide on like a glove, or a tiny shot of spray paint inside the grip. Then use wire after. ** can we get a scrub update??*
