I wish people wouldn't leave rude comments. Florists are a thing of the past most people getting married now have lots of college debt and they're trying to have a cheap wedding. I've always known that I want to DIY my flowers. People are acting like it's rocket science. It is not. I have made nice bouquets just from flowers in my yard before. Sorry but not everyone has rich parents and some people just want more bang for their buck or want their exact vision.

Mariah Oakley...Exactly! Not everyone has the resources to use a florist. I’m nowhere near being a florist, and my flowers come out perfect. These ladies are simply making a suggestion, not enforcing a blueprint. Also, we’re smart enough to look at other videos for floral tips before taking on such a huge project.

Yup. I'm currently going through this with my wedding. My family doesn't think it's possible to have wedding flowers without a professional florist. 🤷♀️ I really don't want to spend the extra money and I don't want anything that isn't local or seasonal. And they wonder why people take out loans for weddings...

I was just in a wedding with DIY flowers, but the bride didn't do them. Her MIL did them who has extensive greenhouses and property with wild flowers and herbs. She bought a few roses but collected what was in season around the area for the rest. It was beautiful but simple, just like the bride wanted, but yes time-consuming and probably would have been a lot for the bride. I think if you have someone day-of when you are doing your hair and makeup who knows what to do, it would all work out great. Other people later told me they thought a florist did the flowers, so yeah a lot of people have the potential to figure out DIY flowers. The comments ragging on DIY flowers seem to assume a bride is going to do it 100% by herself, getting up at 3 am the day of or something.
@TomikaKelly2 жыл бұрын
@@elizabethcochran3395 The thing is, your friend's MIL probably has some type of design/floristry experience, albeit minimal. Most people dont. For your close friends and relatives to do all of this, it would be difficult for them to also be a guest and enjoy the wedding as well. I'm all for a good DIY if the final product looks professional, it's stress free, and the instructions are good. A lot of the tips in this video will cause a possible problem during the wedding. (Ex: pushing down the floral foam. Not wiring the boutonniere. Using tulips (those will wilt.) Most cities dont have an open market and most cities wont have flowers as cheap as LA because LA is an international floral hub. (You can't do this in Nebraska.) Not properly processing the flowers which means they wont last through the wedding.

I did the flowers for my own wedding and it wasn’t as stressful as some are making it seem. Got the flowers and prepared them and made the arrangements 2 days before the wedding and they turned out exactly as I wanted and lasted for days after. I took pictures of how I wanted them arrange on the tables/at the ceremony, dropped them off in the morning and my venue laid them out as I wanted. Continued with the day getting ready as usual. It was more expensive that what these ladies say they spent, but it was less the the quotes that I got from 4 different florists and I was very happy.

If you need inexpensive vases, start collecting glass vases at Goodwill near wealthy areas. $1-2 per vase is worth it vs. $10 per vase that florists pay for the same vase.

I love how salty all the florists are on this video lol. The fact of the matter is that yes, the LA Flower Market is that cheap and open to the public. This is the same supplier for a lot of local florists, who usually get up at the crack of dawn to get the good stuff before it is opened to the public at 8 am most days. Some of these comments are acting like these are going to wilt the second you step out of the market but obviously if you do your research, you can transport them and store them for several days beforehand. It will take more planning, and I wouldn't recommend it for a larger wedding, but if you're trying to save money and your local flower mart is a lot cheaper, you should consider it, especially if you put in the time to learn the basics. On a last note, contrary to what a florist will tell you, flowers rank low on what guests actually remember at weddings, so if you don't have 20 years of floral arranging expertise, don't sweat it. As long as they aren't wilting, your guests probably won't know or care for the difference. At worst, they might think you got a tacky florist or your florist let you get away with tacky choices, if the booze, food, and music are good, they won't remember any floral gaffes.

Taylor the same exact reason why brides do their own makeup to save money. I’m a bride and I plan on doing my own flowers. I may consult a florist for my bouquet and head table but I plan on DIY’ing 🤷🏾♀️. I don’t see anything wrong with it nor should you tell another woman not to get flowers if it’s not from a local florist. If she doesn’t have the budget for it, who cares? I’m 99% sure local florists will still get amazing and profitable business from other brides with a bigger budget. Stop shaming and judging lol and these women clearly stated they weren’t professionals more than once.

@@BOWEN1973 I understand your concern of taking business away from a florist, however, there are tons of florists on you tube doing videos to help brides do it themselves and also for people in general. I get tons of tips from watching. It is good to save money where you can. But checkout you tube....tons of florists are doing it. Remember some brides may choose to do it themselves, but there are others who are not crafty or creative who will go to the florists. This is just how the times have changed. Everything is on you tube. I am doing my own arrangements for my parents grave headstone. So I learned about letting the foam soak up the water by itself prior to putting flowers in. So I watch and subscribe to some florists on You Tube. But there are plenty of people who prefer florists and not to do it themselves.

I did all the flowers for my daughter's wedding and because I wanted them done ahead of time I used silk flowers in the end-of- summer sale at Walmart and Afloral, for use the following summer. The color scheme worked well. I was able to take my time with the bouquets and centerpieces. Some of the bridesmaids bouquets also became centerpieces. I decorated the cake with silk flowers and did the end of aisles too. Its was a breeze on the day. Now I have flower arrangements dotted around my house reminding me of the day.

I can't tell you how many brides who listen to bad diy videos come to me on the day of their weddings because their bqts, arrangements, and boutonnieres died overnight. There are many florists on you tube who give good diy advice. Her flowers may look good to you, but a well trained eye can see these flowers are going to fall apart and die before the event. This is not a good instructional video. Look elsewhere if you plan to diy.

I believe a florist is ideal, if you have the funds. They deserve what they charge...it's hard work. That being said...I did all 4 of my daughter's weddings from start to finish. My daughter's wedding was at a very nice venue, one that only sees professional florists. At the wedding many of the staff asked who our florist was as the florals were some of the nicest they had seen. I was humbled, I said they had been done by me. They were shocked. It WAS a ton of work but it is possible and when budget is super tight, florals are an area where the budget can be shaved DIY. I have design background and an artist so I do believe I have a feel for it but also feel most people motivated can do some simple but pretty designs for their special day....again, no one here in the video is claiming to be an actual florist, they are just trying to help others.

ATTN: I AM A FLORIST. this is completely false information. There is so many mistakes that will just cause your flowers to die. 1)dont push your oasis under water, it wont soak all the way through 2) avoid tulips!! They wilt in oasis. They grow after being cut so they will grow and move from where you put them especially if you're doing them a day before. 3) either spray with crowning glory or water to improve their longevity 4) add hydrangea to your floral foam at the last minute. They need TONS of water and will wilt quickly in oasis 5) research what will last out of water if you're doing things like the hoop or boutinneiers. Some flowers will die within half an hour. 6)keep all flowers as cool as possible until you're going to use them. 7) the cheaper the flowers are, the lower quality theyll be. That sounds harsh but you're paying for quality and longevity. 8) tape your floral foam down to your vessel so it doesnt move during transport 9)dont haggle too much. Its rude 10) if you're using flowers to go on food or even near it, you need to get organic pesticide free ones that are FOOD GRADE. Or else you're spreading pesticides and chemicals onto your food. That glitter babies breath was ridden with chemicals that they spread to the cake and are toxic. 11) SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL FLORIST. we arent out to steal your money. We want to work with you and we want you to leave happy!! Give us your budget and what you want and we'll work on plans and budgeting with you. I cant speak for other florists but we dont jack prices up for weddings. And none of my floral friends do either. But yeah, arrangements CAN BE expensive depending on product you want and size. But like I said before, you're paying for quality and longevity. We are professionals and can provide you with grade A product. And I can guarantee you these flowers were wilted if not dead by the next day. No question about it. Also we're just doing our job man. Just like any of you, trying to cheap us out of our profession is a low blow.

As a person that has worked on floral arrangements and that is still learning one major advice that my horticulture teacher gave me is to NEVER group your flowers yes you can have them near but it is best to cut individually and use them through out the arrangement so it is equally through out and has flow also that how people see the arrangements can see all of the flowers that was used and not just a massive clump of them. Should have taken more time in them in stead of throwing them together. And if you are to do this on your own, massive space in fridges should be taken into consideration to keep them cool and alive until the day. There is nothing wrong in doing this on own but a little bit of research prior is needed. And there is nothing wrong into going to the local florist they are more then willing to work with you and your budget. and the this that I saw wrong off the bat is that you NEVER push down the foam you just toss it in a bucket full of water and leave it be for a good while pushing it down can damage it once wet and not allowing it to soak up the need water amount for the flowers it will cause them to wilt and die faster then anything and it causes air bubbles to be with in the foam itself

These ladies do not know what they’re talking about or doing. You need to soak your foam for at least a couple hours and you can’t push it down or it won’t soak. You let it soak up the water itself and it will sink. That’s how you know it’s completely soaked. You also need to wire your boutonnières roses so it doesn’t fall off. They also don’t even condition their flowers. These things are what florists do.

So before any bride tackles "doing your own flowers" please ask yourself a series of questions. Obviously, what is my comfortable budget for florals and florals alone? What other task on the week of my wedding that can and only be done during this week? Do I have means of storage in a cool, or refrigerated area for my flowers? Do I know what I am doing? Who will set up my flowers the day of the event? Do they have ample space to transport flowers? I am a florist, and I, myself just recently got married, did my own flowers, and now looking back I unfortunately regret doing it. They were beautiful, but I agonized over preparations during the week of my wedding, that I lost so much time that I could have spent with family and friends. As a florist, I can't stress enough... If you have a budget, be open about it. Any great florist will provide guidance and options for their couple's and clients. Time is too precious, and if I could, I would go back and actually hire someone to handle this task for me so I could get ready with my mom, my sisters and my bridal party.

@Taylor Bridesmaids can carry fans. You can do fake kissing balls on top of pilsner vases or julep cups. I'm prolly going to do 3 calla lilies in an Eiffel Tower vase. Order silk boutonnieres and corsages on etsy or wedideas.com or thebridesbouquet.com or wish.com. If you like callas, each bridesmaid can have one single calla lily and you can have like ten, add a ribbon to the single stem. They have cheap flowers at Costco as well. If you don't want it to be absolutely perfect and stick to one or two flowers, it can be done. :-)

Kinda misleading because I imagine arranging these is more mayhem then their leading on.

Unless you want to have bags under your eyes and fall as sleep on your wedding night, don’t DIY your own flowers. It is extremely time consuming and you’ll have many other things on your mind. Your vision may not come out as you wanted and the clean up and transportation are extremely tiring. This seems very unrealistic and even on this video the bride is not doing the flowers herself...how ironic. If you would like to have the experience of DYIing your own flowers I would recommend maybe just try doing your own bouquet or maybe the flowers at your bridal shower or another event that won’t be as big as YOUR wedding day.

Not to mention the cost would be way higher.
@monicabrown23345 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely correct. As a floral designer for events only, I can tell you that it takes me the entire week before a wedding to prepare, process flowers so that they are open & Gorgeous on wedding day, and design for the wedding/event. We often get flowers on Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday for a Saturday wedding. Each type of flower requires different care to prepare them for events. We do not open a package of roses and just start designing. Roses have to be cut, fed, allowed to open for a wedding, this takes days. Not to mention, designers don't just go to the flower mart and grab what's there for a wedding. We order flowers weeks, months in advance to ensure we get the best blooms to perform in our work. The ordering and planning process can take days/weeks/months to ensure it's done properly. While most are sleeping the night before the wedding, we are up ensuring that everything is perfect so that we can spend the next day packaging, transporting, setting up, and breaking down the reception at midnight, following the wedding. Once the wedding is over, we clean our vases, buckets, and put away all of the stuff used for your wedding. This is what you pay a designer for. I'm not knocking those who can't afford to hire a designer, just further explaining why it costs to hire a professional. No professional is out here just charging because it's a wedding. We charge what we charge because of what it takes to perform a wedding.

Unless you’re willing to post receipts to show us 😉😉😉. it’s a shame that folks are going to be misled by this video, Going to a local flower Mart only to realize that with $200, they’re only going to be able to purchase enough flowers for the bouquet and personals, NOT the centerpieces or anything else. Especially hydrangea. If you’re going to be advertising a video that promotes affordability, I definitely wouldn’t start by showing one of the more premium flowers available at a market 😬 lmao
@agnesfredericksen98925 жыл бұрын
This is a wholesale market that sells to the public , I shop there it is really really cheap !
@tammyMHScheer5 жыл бұрын
I went to the same flower mart in the middle of last year, and purchased a bunch of hydrangea for $5, which was enough for 2 centerpieces, and it was beautiful for about 5 days, so not bad quality for the price. The greenery bunches can make at least 2-3 centerpieces and they’re about $3-$5 as well. Roses vary in price. Hope this helps give clarity. I think it’s doable to go in with $200 depending on how many arrangements you need.
@Anna-oe8ue5 жыл бұрын
@symphonyrose I can see the flowers adding up to that cost. But with the vases, there is absolutely no way. If they got something correct it maybe is the flowers, however they failed to include the cost of ALL the materials.
@jennmierez40115 жыл бұрын
Yes, you most definitely can purchase all of those flowers for $200. I myself have done weddings, quinces, and various events for the same or even less. DIY is always a great way to save money.

you might want to try ordering bulk flowers from costco online. Super cheap and really pretty assortment of flowers, fillers and greenery. They don't sell them in store I believe but the upside is it can be delivered quickly.
@joeblanco47325 жыл бұрын
you need to first find out if the flower you like is in season... roses are common all year long

There is a flower mart in the San Diego north county as well
@designsbyangelica5 жыл бұрын
Pricing varies by season, type of flower or greens and vendor. As a florist who shops at the LA market I do know that the quality and assortment of the flowers will not match Costco's.

Ladies you needed foliage in your arrangements. The mom bouquet...hydrangeas are not fillers, they are focal. Create the pieces for hoops before you twist wire around. Overall pretty decent effort.

To the florist these are flowers they got from LA Market they do have reasonable prices because they bought them wholesale. That’s where I’m getting my flowers and I read good review about that warehouse.
@dsw04165 жыл бұрын
I'm only 5 minutes in and this video is already super misleading. If you don't live in LA, there's absolutely no way to get flowers that inexpensive. It's a flower hub and also one of the few places that is open to the public. The fact that you haven't processed the flowers and have them in water is setting them up for failure. It's not as easy as you think, there's a reason florists charge what they do.

Angus Macleod as long as you are storing them in a cold place and giving them plenty of water you could be ok with maybe 2 days before. I would also use a flower feed in the water.
@cathyquilts26095 жыл бұрын
Angus Macleod it depends on the flower and the source. Also, if you don’t care about what color or type of flowers, do mart. Otherwise you are better off ordering even from your supermarket. If you shop and buy flowers enough, they may order for you. But please, go to other videos for technique. Every aspect of this was horribly wrong.

You have no idea what you are saying or doing! No way did you get that lot for 200 very unfair on professional florist to do this, no wire in your button hole rose it will break you pull the tape and stretch it over the stem And you would not put tulips in the foam as they are one flower that keeps growing after cutting Never hold foam down let it soak up water naturally I could go on but believe you mention well but incorrect info to people

That’s why you hire a florist, for the service & the quality. I’m now a wedding florist and tell all of my brides my own wedding experience . You want to be a glowing happy bride not tired like the lady wearing the green shirt.

I am a florist.. I know you were trying hard in the video to help brides...But your advice was really misleading and at times Wrong. Please do some more floral research before posting anymore budget friendly bride videos. Your video would have been helpful if the advice was on point but it was not. However on a positive note both ladies did well keeping the video fun and upbeat.
@rosestewart16062 жыл бұрын
I agree with this. in most cases a professional florist can help make arrangements cheaper e.g. using more greenery, which is cheaper than flowers. But I've also made bouquets and corsages when I've had to and I wouldn't follow many of the tips from this video. Look to Martha Stewart or somebody else.
