How to Dock a Boat in Under 50 Seconds! (Part 1)

This is part 1 of how to dock a boat! I will be doing different types of boats (1 engine and multiple engine) and different type of scenarios for docking. Let me know if you want a more detailed video and I will make them longer!

I know there’s only a tiny amount of current. But best practice would be to spin it round and moor upstream. That way you can keep slowly steering until you gracefully touch the mooring.

Works this way as long as someone is on the dock to help you. If you are by yourself, as the bow almost touches the dock, attach a forward spring line to the dock with a little extra slack. Then steer away from the dock at lowest forward speed, which brings the stern to the dock, at which time you tie a stern line. Shut off motor.

I do the opposite. I have a bow to stern line on the boat that I reach out to put over a cleat on the dock where I want the stern to be. This line both holds the bow close to the dock as well as prevents the boat from going too far forward, either in a slip or into another boat at the dock.

You go 45 degrees in the rock the turn the front out and then you steer the motor the other way and little reverse and thats al you need and i work on boats

You're absolutely right, but it's a whole lot easier when you're going in a forward direction how about backing into that slip, not being negative give it tutorial on that with a single engine a lot of people will benefit

That turn towards the dock and reverse trick is really helpful when I'm trying to direct an inexperienced boater. They simply slide into place.

I’ve been boating 20 years. I’ve learned over the years you wanna be closer than 5 feet from the dock. Especially if there’s no one to catch a line. You may want to keep practicing before you start instructing. Just a thought.

😂 bro....delete this post immediately. Born and raised in Minnesota, land of over 10k lakes. We learned how to drive and dock a boat be4 we could walk. This will 100 not work with paddle driven / ski / wakeboard boat especially in wavy / windy conditions.

Gotta remember this is got an outboard, or outdrive, but inboard straight drive, when pulling off the last step, is trun the rudder away from the dock and it will coast the stern of the boat in

I just got in my boating license up here in New York. And docking is genuinely the most anxiety inducing part for me. I got an old boat, only cost about five grand and I’m always bumping the damn thing against the dock. Only bumped one time yesterday though! I’m getting there! Lol

Its tough at first. I work at a boat rental club when I started, I was expected to be able to drive and park each boat a few days after I started. What I tell people when they’re learning is to get the bow close enough to the dock and actually hop out and guide it in with your hand. Can be sketchy in wind but it can help in a sticky situation.

Please clarify if you leave the motor running, in gear, or turn it off first to drift in before you leave your boat. Too many novice boaters will think they can just jump out of the boat at anytime.

When you're on your own and don't want to hit the dock with a $100k boat - YES that's how it's done! I've docked flawlessly on inlets with 12kn water speeds and never touched the dock! I used to freak other boaters out at the Fuel Dock - Dock Master would be yelling at them "NO he's got it; don't touch the boat!"

@@dominicojala4944 Issue with backing the stern toward the dock at the end is that your boat ends up 2-3’ from the dock (like in the video). You do need someone on the dock to pull you in. Instead, if you turn away from the dock and bump it forward, the momentum will continue to carry your boat toward the dock. You should only back toward the dock if the bow is inches from touching. He didn’t do that in the video.
