I see that you use a Pfaff sewing machine, so I suppose you prefer Pfaff to other brands. Is there anything in particular that stands out for the Pfaff above others, say, Juki or Consew or Adler? Thank you!
@Cechaflo2 жыл бұрын
I got this old machine still in good shape by chance. Consew, Juki, etc. in my opinion are at the same level. Perhaps I went for the Pfaff machine because my uncle who is also a car upholsterer bought a Pfaff 335, cylinder bed sewing machine around 60 years ago and it is still working out.

I've used Pfaff, consew and Adler. They are all good machines I prefer alder only because I own an Adler that I've had for 8 years. I got the machine from an old boss and he got the machine from his dad. It's an old machine and still running strong. But as I said nothing wrong with consew or pfaff.

What type of material is used for the french seam backing (on the back side of the seam)?
@Cechaflo2 жыл бұрын
There are special thin backing strips for sale. Stiff for straight seams and elastic for curved edges. I used a thin stretch vinyl for the seam backing. I cut the strip breadthwise along the stretch direction. It helps to give shape to rounded edges.
@emahfam Жыл бұрын
What do you call the strip under the seem? And what material is best thank you
@Cechaflo Жыл бұрын
It is a binding strip placed on the reverse side. Those strips are sold in roll and ready for sale on some upholstery suppliers. In case of not getting it, we can do it by cutting strips of thin vinyl. The strip on the video looks white because it is the reverse side of the vinyl.

@Cechaflo2 жыл бұрын
Trying to figure it out. Check first (the machine turned off and moving it by hand) if the needle makes stitches (with no thread) the same distance frontwards and backwards. When the reverse lever is lifted the moving is backwards and the needle point should meet the same holes made to the front. Verify if the machine is on time. No fast nor slow.

You will find three threads when you stop the needle before the lockstitch is completed. Make sure that the needle has bottomed out and begun it's up stroke before you stop. Then you should only pull out a single top thread and a single bottom thread.
