Rev matching on my bike is super easy but it is really difficult for me to do it in my car. Then again, I spent most of my time riding my bike.
@wertbe1718 Жыл бұрын
Shifting on a bike I think will always be easier because of the size difference of the engine and clutch and general size
@fireinthesky337911 ай бұрын
You can over-rev by about 500 rpm, smoothly releasing the clutch will do the rest of it. Say you're going 3'rd gear at 60 kilometers per hour, at 3000 rpm. In my car at least, if i want to downshift to second, i should rev to 4000 rpm, but it isn't going to be a big problem if i rev it to say 4500 and then smoothly release the clutch. Your clutch is good at bringing the engine revs down.

If you blip the throttle with the clutch pedal depressed all the rotating assembly of the transmission won't get any inertia thus the syncronizers will have to absorb it. Instead it is better to use double clutching: press clutch, put neutral, release clutch, blip throttle, press clutch put the desired gear. Smoothest downshifts you will ever see!
@guushabets539 Жыл бұрын
This sounds way too complicated, my driving instructor and every driving instructor I know just teaches to brake, press clutch, select correct gear based on speed, release clutch…. No rev matching, or whatever you just tried to explain haha

@jasonzhao8384 Жыл бұрын
I’ve heard different versions of when to blip the throttle so can anyone tell me which is the correct way? Some say you blip it right after clutch in but before putting into gear; some say you blip as you shift; and finally there’s people who do it as you’re about to let go of the clutch. I understand that if you do it quickly enough it would look like they all happen at the same time but as a beginner I still wanna figure out a reasonable order to get comfortable with down the road. Thanks in advance!

If your clutch is in the whole time there’s no difference in any of these. The important thing is it’s at the right rpm when you release the clutch in your desired gear

I see everyone downshifting differently than me. 😮 But I think it’s because I float gears when I drive truck.. 🚛 There’s a little trick you learn when floating where you first blip the accelerator or ever so slightly press the accelerator to pop the gearstick into neutral, then do an actual rev match blip, and then clutch in to throw the stick in the next lower gear. I don’t use clutch to go into neutral from ANY gear. The transition is smooth as butter. Something about blipping while my foot is dug into the clutch raises all sorts of red flags for me 🚩

Ok. I only learned recently that I should be downshifting and rev matching. I had a stick in HS and it didn't have a tachometer so I learned to shift by listening and watching my MPH. Then i would come to reds and stop signs in neutral and use my brakes to stop. Bc I am coming to a complete stop so why downshift when everything is coming to zero? If the light turned green before I stopped, for example, I would chose a gear based on my MPH. Which should match my transmission speed, no?
@jasonplugowsky30866 ай бұрын
There is 100% no need to do this on the street. This is for racing when speed into and out of a corner is paramount.
