How to Downgrade the Fallout 4 Next Gen Update

for anybody crashing every time follow this step. go into fallout 4 directory find the data folder inside look for all files that start with "cc" these are creation kit files for the next gen update and will crash your game every time if you downgrade. delete all of them

@@ObiThePurpleRat if you are using vortex then try and to see if you are launching using the script extender or not. my game was crashing when i was using steam launcher or vortex launcher, but when i went into the files and found the script extender launcher and used it, it worked. hope this helps

its purposeful, they're attempting to break the mod scene to keep mods updating; updated mods mean people have to repair to play again which keeps peopke playing the game longer and diminishes modder resources; and it makes Creation Club mods look easier to access

Hello everyone, I was having the issue when I opened fallout through vortex and even the f4se loader it would crash. But what I found was, when double clicking the "fo4downgrader" file, the command tab would open but no words on it, so what I did was I followed his guide step by step with no mods installed and when running the "fo4downgrader" I ran it as administrator instead of just running it, and it worked fine, but from now on only run fallout through the "f4se_loader" file, also enter your data folder in the fallout 4 file, and delete everything starting with "cc" that's the creation club stuff, that wasn't in the previous fallout 4 update, that may also be what is crashing you. Hope this helps, played around with this for many hours, if you have any questions maybe I can lend a hand.

Thanks for this! I had gone ahead and upgraded, figuring I'd just wait out the mod storm. But after a couple months there were still some mods that are in my "won't play without" category that are simply abandoned at this point. I was jonesin quite a bit to play again and figured I'd go ahead and follow this. I already had all my mods installed in MO2 so I went through every mod that had the F4SE symbol and re-downloaded them for the 1.10.163 version and it seems to be fine. I did crash after a couple hours playing but not sure if downgrading or if business as usual FO4. Appreciate you making this video!

Worked for me. Now I can enjoy the game without stutters and it feels great! Some mods that I upgraded like "high fps physics" should go to a previous version which mathes 1.10..163.

To those racking their heads after deleting all cc files and launching from f4se launcher.... I still had crashes. Had to step into vortex to discover i had multiple f4se mods active (yes i was launching from the right launcher version and still dealing with crashes) I deleted each version aside from the desired downgrade and launched with f4se and boom, no crash!

This actually helped me to get the game running properly again from a fresh install. The old way of downloading depots in the steam console, and taking the files to replace the NG files don't work as the game continues on crashing after a couple or few seconds starting up.

because it was literally explained that the down patcher needs those mods to work. and the backparted archive allows the next gen mods to be used on the down patched version of the game. you should probably read the mods and actually learn what they do and why they're needed first, lmao.

I have never installed F4se with a mod manager, always manual install. Maybe that’s why my game failed to start, wouldn’t even bring up the opening scene, after using Vortex to add F4se. Going to delete everything and try it again with the f4se manual install.

You have to use a version of F4SE that is compatible with the Fallout 4 version you have. To check your Fallout 4 version go into your Fallout 4 directory folder, put the cursor over the executable, and see what version it is (It should be identified as 1.10.984 or something alike). After that, go onto Nexus, find F4SE, click the “files” tab, and find a version of the mod that is compatible with the version of the game (it has to match that number that identified the executable).

Ok ive successfully downgraded Fallout 4. I've also deleted all cc files both from the game folder & vortex mm. So the game starts up but then crashes back to desktop. So i looked through my mods & found a message saying that The Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch is not compatible with the downgraded version but unfortunately there's no old file for TUF4P going back before that stupid next gen update. I was going through the downgrading process using the first one that came up ( made by zerratar ) and in the middle of the downgrading it gave an error message and could finish it but when i ran it again it said it was already done and it goes the same doing this method however no matter where i run it if its through steam, vortex, or the F4SE loader it will just not open but when i try it with vortex it keeps saying that i still have the newer version of fallout.

Does not work. Booting up the game it crashes while loading on black screen. Deleting cc files does not help. Booting up the game with loader boots the game successfully but all menu tabs are gone. Including that of quitting the game.

Just wondering, did you INSTALL the other 3 files after downloading? Because a mod manager downloads and install the files automatically for you. If you don't use a Mod Manager, you have to install the 3 files yourself.
