How to download and apply Vray Materials

In this video i show how to download and apply vray materials from the internet. This is a great tool for people who are still learning how to create their own materials or just need something quick for their scene.

i have a question if any body save this material in vray material library inside 3ds max. does this effect the performance of 3ds max. eachtime i rendering because 3ds max is calling different paths for materials each time or 3ds max copies the material in project folder when we set the project folder.? please help me out i will be very thankful.

Nice tutorial!! i feel like all tutorials i have seen (like those on lynda) just tells you about light or how to setup the renderer, but they never and i mean never say anything about how to correctly apply textures, like bitmaps. They never say "and hey is very important to know how to unwrap the texture because if dont your model and reder will still sucks"... :D Well, thanks for the tutorial i will subscribe. A question. For more complicated shapes how you apply the textures? do you always have to use the "unwrap modifier and peel it or there is another way? could you do a video for? and for baking textures (i still dont get it the pourpose).. thanks!!!! a hug from aregntina

Thank you for subscribing! I really aim to go over each step and make sure everyone understands each process. I actually would like to re-do this video and show a much easier way of doing it! As for the unwrapping of more complex objects, im going to try and do a video of that in the coming week. Lastly, I dont understand baking either haha. Cant find a good tutorial on that either, so we are both out of luck there.

haha no problem, for what i could understand baking textures is a way of print shading and light effects over a texture thats been applied to sopme object. Its say to be usefull for videogames. I ask you because in the chaos group website they have kindda explanation. And it "almost looks like" that way of baking a texture it also gives you an automatic way of peel some object. Either way i think i know how to peel an object but since i never saw it on any tutorial of vray that they were doing it, I still have the doubt if you have to do that when you have a complex object that you want to apply a texture

hey there, apologies if this is something as clear as day that I am not seeing bt I cannot find the blend material :/ I can find the Vrayblendmtl type but it doesnt give an option (that i can see) for a second material such as that in your tutorial. any idea where i might be going wrong? cheers

Brett Noble it is the vray blend material. however you have to click on the go to parent button. i believe this is the issue you are having?

why cant you people realize that if you are doing a tutorial...the person watching probably has no idea what they are doing...which is probably why they came here in the first place. Im sorry you feel this way. This was the very first video i ever made on youtube. The whole goal of my channel and the reason i started to further pursue tutorials after the success of this video, was to create simple, easy to follow, but straight to the point tutorials. So im very sorry i didnt accomplish that. I did create a new how to download video that was made to be simpler, however if that isnt easy enough to follow along to, i promise to go into more detail. VanLoon3D dont get me wrong, I definitely learned something from this...and I do realize the video is a few years old...and I also dont want to discourage you or anyone else from creating tutorials because they are gold for learning. Part of it is the frustration when learning something new knowing that the information is there but sometimes just carelessly passed along. I often try to imagine creating a tutorial and having to think 3 steps ahead because you have to assume the person does not have any of the same frame of reference so I do understand it must be difficult. Again, thank you for your effort and desire to help others learn. If I had any constructive criticism it would be to try to be more mindful and deliberate. Im sure you’ve improved since 2015. Anyways, just thought id mention it since you took the time to respond. Cheers
