There is nothing on the main track to inform you of where the alternate track takes off. How do I get the Alternate/Expert tracks to show up on the main tracks?

You continue to do an OUTSTANDING job and service to all of us riders who love to ride in the back country. Many thanks, great and simple explanations. See you on the trail.

Great video and very important every adventure rider has the equipment and ability to do this. I've gotten myself and others in my groups out of many sticky spots because I had the tracks and knew how to navigate (AZBDR particularly). Very simple too.

Very nice and thank you! I the video today, just to make sure there wasn't some new tip/process with Basecamp. I successfully used the MABDR tracks in '20 on a Zumo 665. Question: I later replaced my old 665 with the 396 and realized that waypoints are not visible with names, as they were on the older Zumo. Garmin suggests this was an improvement. I disagree. Do you have any advice (or other references) to how best to deal with waypoint use/conversion to POIs on the newer Garmin units?
@TouratechUSA3 жыл бұрын
That's a good question, we aren't especially happy with how the newer units hide waypoints either.

Sorry but I have a question but when you download the maps directly onto the garmin gps. Does it go to the chip or the internal storage? I’m stumped because it seems like it never makes it onto the micro sd card
@TouratechUSA3 жыл бұрын
It depends on the unit and how you load the maps but usually they go direct to internal storage.

Iain, I just successfully got all the WA BDR tracks loaded on to my Zumo, super quick and easy thx. I just tried to also install the ID BDR tracks and these will not load on to my GPS. Is there a limit where you can only have one BDR on the GPS at a time? Has anyone else had this issue and found a solution? Any info on this topic would be super helpful.

I loaded the Colorado route onto my Garmin Zumo XT. I can see each section in my Apps under Tracks. When I leave PA and ride to Colorado then I just bring up each section of the route under Tracks to do the ride? Is that correct?

Under "Internal Storage" on my Zumo 396 it says "City navigator North America" rather than the "Topo US 100k" shown in the video. Do I need to buy a different map layer to show the back roads of these routes?
@TouratechUSA3 жыл бұрын
The GPS tracks will display regardless of what map you have loaded on the GPS unit. Topo is shows contour lines and seasonal streams that can aid in navigation if you are inclined to use them.

What about converting the TRACKS to a ROUTE on the Garmin 395? Won't this make it easier to ride track/route?
@TouratechUSA4 жыл бұрын
ROUTES are not as reliable as TRACKS since they are dependent on what maps are available on the GPS at a given time. TRACKS will display reliably regardless of installed maps (or even without one) so they are the best way to share trips like this without getting folks needlessly lost in the outdoors.

Very helpful tutorial which enabled me to import GPS Tracks into my Garmin 396. However, now that I have the tracks on the GPS--I can't figure out how to start navigating. The tracks display on my map--is it simply a matter of starting riding in the direction of the tracks and seeing it track my progress along the way or is there some sort of "start navigating" procedure? Any help is appreciated - I am new to following GPS tracks without converting them to a Trip.
@TouratechUSA4 жыл бұрын
GPS tracks are best followed manually by checking your progress against the line on the screen. Most of the time you only need to look at intersections to see which way the track goes. Because tracks are designed to display regardless of what maps are on the screen, they don't have any way to distinguish between what is an intersection or just a bend in the road so they won't navigate for you.

I’m not getting the track segment names. When I upload the BDR File into explore.Garmin and then sync to my Garmin Overlander - all Of the track segments are named the same - I’m not getting CA1, CA2, CA3, etc. All of mine are named CABDR-MAY2019 - the name of the downloaded file. Any idea why this is happening?
@TouratechUSA3 жыл бұрын
That sounds like an issue with how Garmin is importing the tracks through Explore. You could try splitting each track segment into it's own GPX file and import them all separately if Garmin is using the file name only.
@andrewg3672 жыл бұрын
So does it give turn by turn after the import? Or just follow the line with an app like Gaia?
@TouratechUSA2 жыл бұрын
Tracks are always follow the line because they are independent of the map data on the GPS unit.

Will we need to already have another form of map installed? Montana 680t to be specific, I don’t have anything on it. Will I need Topo 24k or city navigator first, then get the GPX tracks for the route? Or is it possible to run the GPX tracks alone?
@TouratechUSA4 жыл бұрын
GPS Tracks are entirely separate from the maps loaded onto a GPS. You could run an entire BDR with nothing but the track on a blank screen but the maps make it much easier to orient yourself to your surroundings.

Can you ride a side-by-side on a bdr route
@erniecolussy17052 жыл бұрын
The most sections and segments of BDRs require vehicles that are street legal. In Washington state there are only limited areas where side-by-sides, even with a license plated, are street legal. I believe that this is true in most states. Most of the DBRs can be completed with four wheel street legal vehicles that have the ground clearance and are rugged enough. But at least one of the DBRs has (or had) a segment that was width restricted. There were area too narrow for SUVs and trucks. I not sure that this is still true.

If I download a gps track to my desktop, could I then upload that track to goggle maps on my iPhone? If so, how would I go about doing that; ie I assume no need/use for Garmin Basecamp on my desktop, what other app/program would I need/use? Thanks.
@RideBDR4 жыл бұрын
There are programs that will allow you to use gpx files on your phone, but they all very a little in their operation. If you're looking for a quick solution to using your iPhone for navigation, you may want to check out the REVER app. BDR routes are already on there and many folks have reported success. Of course, always be sure to carry a paper version of the BDR Butler Map as a backup!

Yes it is. You can use the Gaia website or email the GPX file to yourself and open it in the app. Gaia has helpful tutorials on importing GPX files.
