this comes from someone who never sew something longer than 10 inches in his line. this dude learned all these, most likely in years from the 2d pages of a book (which is a challenge of its own), and lots of trial and error, experience... then he's willing to take the time and effort to record all that experience with all the camera setup, planning how to make the video, editing, graphic design, what to say, when to say it, writing etc FOR FREE! what a time to be alive! this is why i say, in this day and age, if you're a healthy person, you have no excuse to be an ignorant/arrogant. we have the world of knowledge in our palms. incredible, dude. you're amazing! i hope all your hard work pays off and you end being one of those youtubers with millions of subs.

Just coming back here to say this: this is an amazing tutorial and draft. I drafted a pair of women’s trousers for myself, and I didn’t expect it to work out because I have quite the pair of hips. (Commercial patterns never turn out quite right on me) I’ve been proven wrong, and after a few minor tweaks I will make these up in a proper fabric that isn’t a sheer bedsheet! I’ve become quite jaded to the idea of never having pants that fit, but the pair I drafted off of this tutorial? Perfect! No weird wrinkles, digging, etc on the mock-up, and the crotch isn’t so high and tight that it’s trying to strangle me. Thank you so much Corn!
@CorneliusQuiring2 жыл бұрын
That is wonderful news. I am happy to hear that your draft fits you well and you are able to make them to your desires. Hopefully, the final pair made out of the desired fabric turn out well too. Thank you for watching and thank you for chiming in, it's always great to get feedback.

I'm still new to the whole sewing thing so I haven't discovered too many youtubers, but so far this is the most detailed and well explained video on pattern drafting I've seen so far by a long shot. All the others are just "add x amount of inches because that's how it's done, make this curve like this, because that's how it's done" But you have actually gone through the effort to explain why these things are done and how they're relevant to the actual trousers. Thank you for making this video, you are doing a great service to the world and I look forward to what you produce for the sewing tutorial if that's what you're making in the future

This was incredibly helpful for someone like me who is just beginning his journey into sewing. I am a short kinda stocky/chubby guy (5'8, 38ish Waist) with large thighs so it's very difficult to find pants that fit properly and impossible if I want a "skinny"/tapered fit. Got tired of no clothing brands making a 26 or 27 inseam in my size so here I am. Your GORGEOUS face in the thumbnail brought me here, the solid info and care put into the video made me stay. Thanks!!! ❤️

Your teaching method is the best! I've been sewing for a couple years now, made some tshirts, button down shirts, minor adjustments on some pants and even a dress once. But pants always seemed nearly impossible, besides the two front and two back pieces, there is also the waistbands, pockets, and the front fly, never made sense in my head how to put all these together. There's just too many parts and too many calculations and details. I've searched a lot throughout KZbin, in English, Portuguese, Spanish, and even some Japanese sewing channels, and it was all very confusing, some were ok, but never gave me the feeling that I could do it, there was always something lacking. But man, your video is the best by far, you not only show how to make the patterns but also why they are made like that, and the part where you teaches how to make adjustments is totally on point, you made very clear every doubt that I had, and now I feel confident to finally take up on this challenge and sew my first pair of pants. Thank you very much and I hope to see much more of you in the future!

I see people in the internet talking about buying pattern which I find it strange. But I understand why may be that’s the hardest part. Even the sewing lessons by others on KZbin on trousers aren’t helpful. Your videos are handsdown best. People go at lengths to explain crotch curve, crotch lengths etc in a dedicated video which gives us nightmare. You simply addressed the crotch issues by saying “let’s add some ease”. I owe you a ton. I have been making about a dozen of trousers since watching your videos. It’s hugely helpful

Wow, you’re a really brave newbie to start with trousers! I’ve been dressmaking for 40 years with a long break in between because of kids and work commitments etc, I didn’t stop doing repairs, taking garments in and out, making curtains and so on but only really started again during lockdown to make scrubs, surgical hats, masks etc for frontline workers so it’s been a LONG time since I’ve made a pair of tailored trousers and the thought honestly terrifies me! I invested in a overlocker a couple of years ago too so I’m having to learn to master that as well as relearn everything I knew before, I don’t know if it’s my age, confidence level, lack of skill or all of the above but I’m doing so much seam ripping it’s ridiculous but I’m trying to be patient with myself even though it’s so frustrating but I’ll get there. I just miss the days of making clothes for my kids (although they’re obviously adults now and things need to be much bigger lol, I’ve made some tees, hoodies, joggers etc to practice working with knit fabrics) I miss whipping something for myself up in a few hours without needing a pattern and with the expert finishing I learned in my first job and from both of my grandmothers who inspired me to get started so I could make my first garment aged only 13. I hope your sewing journey is as fruitful and enjoyable as mine has been!

Thank you for your clear instructions. It's clear you've thought through what you're trying to communicate, and that you understand exactly why you're doing things, as well as when why you're doing things doesn't -really- matter because it's a rule of thumb to protect us from over-information! For the algorithm :-) You did a great job explaining the drafting process, and a fabulous job explaining the pattern tweaks required to fix fit issues. Toiling over toiles for fit issues is the most un-fun part of sewing.

Bro. Cornelius, I just finished watching your tutorial on drafting pants. Your ability to take the complex and make the simplex is off the chain. As a prior Army instructor, having that ability allows everyone at any level to comprehend such detailed instruction. I'm grateful for you sharing this tutorial, now it's time to try and draft a pair of pants. I've watched several of your tutorials and will continue to do so. Thank you again. 🙏👍

I'm self taught and have been sewing for many years but I've never drafted pants from scratch before. I've always just cut up old pants for a pattern if I want to make new ones. Plus I mostly make costumes and corsets. But now that my sons are grown and I want to make cultural clothing for them, I want to learn this step. Your video is the first video I've found that starts from scratch, and I'm so excited to draft some pants for my boys! I hope I can follow these steps. ❤
