my husband was burned as a baby...he's very self conscious. He has scars all over his chest, back, neck, shoulders...they have never bothered me. Every one has scars somewhere...mental, physical, etc...we've known each other 50...I still don't see the scars.

I have just found you, very useful vid, thank you. I think the right angle is my now must have. Along with an awl. I have an expanding long magnet, never thought to use it for pins. ( hubby will be pleased). I recently discovered using a box, possibly more use than my pocketed sewing mat. Tried a rolled hemmer once not very successfully. I need new material scissors. What’s a good price without breaking the bank. Have you made other vids?

My first pattern was for a dress for my Barbie doll. It went quite well, so I followed it up with a sort of dress for myself. This impressed my mother so much, that she took me to a fabric store and let me buy a pattern and some cotton jersey for the model. I got great acclaim at school for my homemade dress, and so I though I could sew only to fail miserably the next time. Since then it has followed that same pattern with good looking well fitting clothes alternating with sad rags. I can never stop hoping.

I usually consider what Cornelius saya is gospel, but I must disagree about rolled hem presser foots. I did try that tiny thing you showed and became so frustrated I nearly threw the machine out the window. But since then I gotten a set of larger presser foots that offer a wider variety of hem widths, and they are a time and life saver. Especially for people with limited to intermediate sewing skills and especially useful for people with little patience.

could you not also use the hole at the top to attach the tool to a chatelaine ? most women seamstresses used one to keep their tools handy when making garment alterations

I use A LOT the curve ruler , helps me in many ways. I buy those little scissors to cut threads with ,without that ring , who puts his finger in everytime when you cut threads many times a day ? I use needle threaders everywhere . I have multiple scissors for different kinds of fabric and depending of what I want to do , so I believe that having 1 scissor for everything is wrong .

Love your videos. As to, tools I use which make my sewing & upholstery work simpler include all of your favorites on this video. There is one more, recently added to my favorites- sewing clips. These are typically used by quilters. I find them extremely helpful for holding things in place, a third hand as it were. I use pins at times but find these sewing clips very convenient and versatile. I also love use a rotary chaulk tool for marking long lines. It has become my 'go to' marking tool

I’m surprised you use an aluminum ruler with your rotary cutter. I started out that way and was told that was why my rotary blades dulled and chipped so quickly.

@ Okay! I will continue watching and learning until that happens sir. One of my friends makes Elizabethan costuming and sings the praises of being able to assemble, tweak and adjust pieces without bits being strewn all over the place. You can SEE if something isn’t looking right, and fix it. Another friend with fabric scissors says his stuff turns out perfect without playing pin the tail on the dummy. His main argument is that unless you are some flavour of professional who will use it on a regular basis, it is a big waste of money, and takes up space unnecessarily. Yeah… he’s a big downer. :) I am a messy, amateur sewer. Sleeves, scissors and straps seem to vanish while I do something else, and then there is the problem of not being able to adjust things on yourself (self-pinning… OWWwwww!) That degree of tailoring, so that things … Y’know… fit, is a goal.

Hey...I decided to watch this video to find out what tools you DON'T care for...NOT the tools you LIKE! Why don't you like the French curve? It's great for many things and I use mine often. I'm not a fan of tailor's chalk - having to sharpen them grates on my nerves. I like my mechanical pencil with the white marking chalk. If you like using a stiletto, I would suggest getting some angle nosed weeding tweezers. They can be used in place of a stiletto, as tweezers, the tips are sharp enough to snip or pick threads from a seam, the tips can be used as a graduated awl, and the handle can be used as a Hera marker. I love the Sizzix Curved Fine Tip Tweezers! Now...what are the tools you think are a waste of money???

If you have one with the slide made of metal, guard it carefully! The problem with the plastic ones, is it is difficult to measure & press in one step without melting the slider.
