It is really valuable how you explain your rationale and show how to work out the right curve. So many youtube tutorials just provide "finished" instructions where viewers do not learn usable techniques. We can only copy what they show and only if our pattern is exactly what they are working on. Your videos teach how to think about the design or pattern goal, what measurements to take into consideration and then how to go about drafting the best lines. Thank you, much appreciated. A great teacher!

Thank you so much for this tutorial. When I cut a hem like this on center front fold, it ends up with a weird dip in the center. How do I prevent this?
@JSternDesigns21 күн бұрын
That's a great question! ...you will get a little dip or a peak if the edge of the hem is not coming in at a 90 degree angle from the fold. Take your ruler and align long edge with the CB fold... position the short end of the ruler with the hem. Mark an inch or so along the short end to create a 90 degree angle. That will take care of your little tip! Thanks for watching

Hi I just found your Videos, great explanations very easy to follow, What I would like to know, when you have a centre front seam on the fold how to make it smaller across chest, as I am a 48 inch bust and a smaller size upper chest, how would you make the adjustments Please. Thanks. Cheers. Noni

Welcome to my Channel! (and I'm so sorry that I missed your question). I think it will be easier to pick a size that fits your upper bust... Then do a Full Bust Adjustment to make room where you need it. Here's a tutorial showing how to do a FBA on a dartless top. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iqabl6qKarGIqas

Thank you for this awesome video. I love curved hems. If I want to use your method to change some "too long" ready-to-wear tops to curved hems, would I just unpick the side seams, draft the curve, hem, and then sew back the side seams? I hope this makes sense!
@JSternDesigns Жыл бұрын
My pleasure! I don't think you need to take out the side seam... But, start there to measure the length you would like the hem to be at your side seam, then draft the curved hem to the longer CF/CB edges. Thanks for watching

Thank you so much! It worked. Your way is so much easier. I managed to shorten 2 tops without undoing the side seams. Thanks again for your help. Love your videos!

I always learn a lot from your videos, you explain it great! above all, you do not speak very quickly and use simple words that are understood, even if my english is not so good😁 can you please make more videos about covering with the triumph or ovation, about thread tension with special yarns etc.?

Thank you so much! and thanks for watching. I'll add specialty threads to my list for the Baby Lock Ovation!

Thank you, Jennifer! Just one question; is the hem allowance included in the extension? Can't wait to see the shirt made up. Also, I'd love to see a how-to on actually sewing the hem. In all my years of sewing, I have never mastered the curved shirttail hem.

Sorry I didn't see your comment until now. Yes a narrow allowance is included. To sew the curved hem use this technique: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZzCqWend7poiNE and thanks for watching~

Do you add a seam allowance to the shirt tale hem?
@JSternDesigns2 жыл бұрын
Because of the curved shape, a narrow hem works best. If you're going to turn the raw edge under and stitch it down, add 1/2" If you're going to clean finish the edge on the serger first, add 3/8". Hope this helps, thanks for watching.

What about hem allowance?
@JSternDesigns4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mary... Yes good catch. I forgot to factor in the hem allowance. With curved or shaped hems I keep my hem allowance pretty narrow... approximately 3/8"
