I have the opposite problem. My inseam is too long and the hem hikes up at the side seam. Trying to adjust at the hem doesn’t work well. I think it may be that my high hip area is taking up more room at the side seam, but measuring inseam and out seam doesn’t seem to fix the problem. Please advise how to correct this in a pattern alteration as well as after the fact. Very frustrating.

I have followed your prominant tummy tutorials; they are great. Tops do wing out on me as I am a size 12 on top and 16 in waist. So I have a fast change of size. Will this method work using a size 12 pattern; can I get sufficient width for a large waist/abdomen?

2 edges sliding across each other will make some sound. The smoother the edges I would think the quieter the sound made. A smoother edge, or a sharper edge should be quieter. Look at a sharp edge under a microscope and it makes more sense. They don't look so smooth. So, thanks. Trying to get my mom's sewing machine into doing what it made to do. I love your instructions and you put so much care into them. Please answer me this one question: is what you’re describing here sometimes known as a hungry bum?
@JSternDesigns3 күн бұрын
:) I think "hungry bum" is a term that describes the fit of a pant muslin where the inseam is being pulled in too snug against you... So extending the crotch extensions creates more depth front to back to give that CB seam and the fabric attached to it breathing room! Hope that helps, thanks for fitting along with me

Hi J! So I'm thinking through a garment design I would like to make a copy of with a button up neck. All the heights fall right where they should be for bust and waist. The shoulder seam angles in at my High Point shoulder and the neck is slightly tight. What does that mean? I know because you told me! Remembering that you worked on a pattern for your dear Mom round back, I entered your name in YT search and watched the lesson. What came up in the search afterwards blew me away. You are going to want to teach this to your Students! Mom Power!!! KZbin "How To Fix Bad Posture Quickly - Dr. Berg" I didn't know how sore my shoulders were. Now they are not and my "Mirror Posture" is so much better! BOOM!

I also have a question. For a prominent inner thigh, I took a course and the instructor said to just extend my front crotch and then blend. How would they be different?
@JSternDesigns4 күн бұрын
That's a great question! You can extend the crotch curves front and or back... but that also depends on whether you need more depth (room) front to back at crotch level.... Or if you need more room to sit down in your pants. If the crotch is fitting properly, adding to them may make too much ease there... "Filling in along the inseam" will give you the room you need without changing the crotch. Thanks for fitting along with me

Was your steel blade brand new, just like the titanium one? It was a bit confusing as we didn’t see you putting in a new steel blade to your Olaf’s rotary cutter, it was already on there, so I’m not sure if it was an old steel one, in which case how can you compare the two?
@JSternDesigns5 күн бұрын
Sorry about that... I should have showed you how to put the new blade on... The blade I used in this tutorial is the new one. This tutorial is more about sharing a high quality replacement blade vs. comparing them... The expensive Ofla blades does work just as well as this one, they just cost more... I can tell you since this tutorial, I'm still using the same blade and it's still really sharp and cutting great! Thanks for watching

Thanks for this, Jen! I have prominent inner thighs but also have prominent OUTER knees. Shifting fabric to the inseam would likely cause pulling on the outside of my knee. Could you just add to the inseam and leave the original side seam as is or would the leg then be unbalanced?
@JSternDesigns5 күн бұрын
Yes, you can! Use this "new" approach and leave the side seam alone! ... Or you can add to the side seam by following the steps here, but spread instead of overlap the pieces if you think you need more room along the side seam! Thanks for watching

After seeing this again, I now have a question. If my upper armhole gapes 1/2”, could I use this amount in my shoulder dart? I’m thinking it is transferring the fullness, but I need to know how much fullness to transfer to the dart.
@JSternDesigns5 күн бұрын
If the sleeve fits properly in the armhole, then it's likely that it's not excess ease, it's the fabric being distorted by the shape of your upper back (shoulder blades). You can close the gap and rotate it to a shoulder dart... which would add shape to the upper back... but removing the ease may make the armhole too tight (that was the first thing I tried when I saw the gaping on this student's armhole - and it made the armhole too snug. Hope this helps! Thanks for fitting along with me

We really don’t have to do it on the front and the back? Or did I misunderstand?
@JSternDesigns6 күн бұрын
The front leg usually does not need this adjustment in most cases because the front crotch extension is much shorter.... (so there's more fabric under crotch level already... On some patterns, if you shift the fabric to the inseam, your inseam could almost be in line with the tip of the crotch extension. Vs. the back leg which has a longer crotch extension that extends significantly past the fabric under the crotch. Hope that helps! Thanks for fitting along with me

Does this adjustment help with fabric bunching up between the thighs into the crotch area when walking? You are a great teacher and I really appreciate your channel!
@RoseGold...6 күн бұрын
@erinaceus I am by no means an expert in sewing but I had the same issue with the fabric bunching in my crotch area. My thighs have a small amount of rub in the crotch area and it is just enough friction to grab the fabric and bunch it in my crotch area when I walk. So what I did was lower the crotch of my pants until it sat slightly under my thigh rub. That way my rubbing thighs wouldn't grab the fabric and cause that dreadful bunching in the crotch area. No more fabric bunching in my crotch area. Yay!
@JSternDesigns6 күн бұрын
I'm not sure... I would need to see what's going on to offer a fix. If you'd like to email me photos, I can take a look at what's going on! You don't have to send "walking" photos, just a clear front/side and back view ([email protected]) Thanks for fitting along with me! @RoseGold :)

Yes! That would help a lot. I'm trying to understand what prominent under thigh means.
@JSternDesigns6 күн бұрын
That is a great suggestion... I should have thrown up a photo or illustration of a prominent inner thigh/knee... In the meantime, if your inner thighs/knees touch when you're standing with your feet shoulder with apart, it's likely you may need more fabric along the inseam... Also, if you can grab a handful of extra ease right below your full hip ...and it feels like you need more room along the inseam, that's another reason to shift the fabric! Thanks for fitting along with me.
