In a moment of insanity my friend popped in steering fluid into the coolent res, he poured in about half a pint, went for a 5 minutes drive, by pouring water into the res he thinks he got it out, but didnt do a complete flush, how serious is it to get every last drop out?

why you don't open the cylinder block drain plug to let water out from block? I'm just asking, because I think there is enough water to contaminate new coolant with old degraded one, or not?
@reeseboi87042 жыл бұрын
exactly what I was thinking. If you're gonna flush the coolant to this extent, should also drain out the block too.

3 good remarks : 1) Its not smart to run water pump on a dry system . 2) never put a jack stand under suspension, bad idea. 3 ) why don't you open the cylinder block drain plug to let the water fall out from the block?
@mmm-mmm-good Жыл бұрын
He wont, so i will. Your comment is very insulting. Every line is to tell this guy he is less intelligent. Why? Keep it to yourself. 1. The system was not dry when he activated the pump 2. Bmw put the jack mounts in specific positions, its not a choice 3. Why? He did it this way, you do it your way, wheres your video helping others to learn?

I have a faulty thermostat and decided to change it myself, i wasn't going to change the coolant but it turned out it was pink /not blue green 😬 so after pulling the thermostat out all the flued from the head came out so i just got as much as i could out (without draining the radiator/drain plug as i dont have a jack /ramps or anything to get underneath) so once the head was empty i reconnected everything and put the new coolant in (it was leaking from the new housing) and the coolant looks awful! Can get all the old coolant out of the rad as well, without the drain plug ?

I think it's bc that car is a turbo and has an intercooler. The intercooler sits below the radiator, U need to remove the intercooler to see the radiator and the drain plug.

pls dont try and empty bme electric water pump with no water, that will be an expensive mistake
@Rumpel224 жыл бұрын
Why ? Electric pump can work too without water or ? There ´s nothing wrong to do without water ... in that case your ´s water pump is without any another problem. Or am I wrong ?
@AdrianJayeOnline4 жыл бұрын
@@Rumpel22 up to 10:08 I agree with this, however there is ABSOLUTELY no need to engage the water pump to get "a little bit more water out of the car", it does nothing for the procedure and is not necessary, IF you really wanted to, top the system up with "DISTILLED" water, close everything, run bleed the pump, open and drain, a FLUSH on these car's is NOT necessary and your NOT going to get ALL THE WATER out, never, and guess what it DOESN'T matter if you don't . pumps electric or otherwise, rely on coolant and antifreeze as a LUBRICANT, BMW electric water pumps are very temperamental, I would ERR on the side of caution and skip that step, in fact iof you look up the actual BMW procedure for this, it will never tell you to "run a bleed cycle to get the last drop out, because it's not needed , not necessary and you will NOT get all the water out, and having a quart or two in the system has no negative effect,.

Is it necessary to change the coolant? BMW say lifelong coolant.
@hitman996872 жыл бұрын
Definitely! BMW says the same for the "life-long" transmission fluid although it's very noticeable after 100k+ miles when the car doesn't shift correctly, it's so that the car isn't drivable after a certain amount of miles! - this is personal opinion but it's easy to put it together
