@loszhor7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the information. It's so hard to get specific proportions on cartoonish characters from videos like these.
@ChrisWhartonArt6 жыл бұрын
Your welcome! And I know what you mean. Cartoons are sort of elastic and totally style dependent. Most of the time its good to figure out the structure behind the character you are trying to draw. What size and shape each bit it when compared to the whole, then practice it from as many angles as you can :)
@loszhor6 жыл бұрын
You wouldn't happen to know some good references for exact measurements for "classic" style cartooning such as you would find in the Preston Blair book? Such a "Looney Toons" or "Disney" type of characters? I keep looking and all I can is partial information or they just fall back on "just draw circles". I'm the kind of artist that needs it spelled out for him but I have every intention of practicing it vigorously until I get it right. On a similar note, I am developing a free program to aid artists with studying, if you could look it over an give any suggestions for additions that you might thing would help artist practice please let me know. Link below: theflyingnest.itch.io/sketch-companion
@ChrisWhartonArt6 жыл бұрын
The Preston Blair books are the first ones that came to mind, but I would also recommend the books Action Cartooning and Fantasy Cartooning by Ben Caldwell. They are good but even those aren't as thorough as some of the Preston Blair books. As for your program, I will try and look it over when I have the time. Thanks for dropping the link :)
@loszhor6 жыл бұрын
Indeed, mostly it's with "fantasizing" the proportions. So much time spent on "normal" proportion but how often are characters drawing with those, yes? Thank you, and please help spread the word for it if you'd can. I'm making it to help the art community as a whole and I'd appreciate any help I could get.

Hey man, first of all this is great, thank you so much for sharing in such an easy to follow way! Secondly (I've only started learning how to draw over the last few months) When changing up facial features - eyes, lips, mouths etc. Would you recommend looking at specific art for this or just trial and error with different shapes and sizes?
@ChrisWhartonArt6 жыл бұрын
You're very welcome my friend! As for your question, it's really up to your particular preference of style. I think if you want to get a face to look like a specific artists style or a specific expression, your best bet is to look at how others do it and try to find out why you find it appealing and learn the underlying structures of those parts of the face. once you can break down the pieces you can put them together however you like. Good luck!

Yes, everything is in roughly the same areas for every face, with slight deviations for different head shapes, jaw lines, nose shapes, eye shapes, lip thickness, etc. It takes time and practice to master these rules and keep applying them while manipulating the different aspects of the face to render different ethnicities. Its amazing how many different looks you can get while staying within this framework.
