Oh, Jani, this video just makes me feel so much less inept at sketching as I used to feel. I am so surprised that I can actually see myself sketching: doing the basic lines, adding details, more details... and then finding out that the cheek line is wrong, forehead is wrong, eyes have wrong size and position, jaw line is wrong... at which point I already feel like a looser and want to throw my sketch away. But now I can see that it is pretty normal not getting it right the very first time :) Thank you so much for that :)

You know Daška I didn't practice for a while now, I am very very rusty after my pregnancy period that I did not draw much and am surprised how much of the drawing skill went away just by not exercising regularly. Now as I'm practicing more, with every sketch I do less and less corrections - so my point is, if you give it 2-3 sketches a day, in a week or two you'll see such a difference - hope you have fun drawing!

Yet again, learned something. I know you've talked about it before, but seeing it will make me remember it better. I'm constantly looking at my finished portrait and seeing that my eyes are slightly off, or my nose is out of wack, so taking the picture and sliding back and forth to see corrections will definitely help me on that. Can't wait for the skin process and see it all put together. Thanks Jane!!! Have a beautiful day!!!

With taking the photo and checking, you can also stand your piece up and walk away from it to look at a distance that way too

I loved seing the process in real time while learning your tips. I can't wait to see you painting it! 💕 Now wish me luck. I will still attempt to draw a human face. But will probably paint a different subject with the mixes from the last video.

Yeay Paulina, thanks for watching and the worst part is to start - maybe I could try to make a video for people scared to start drawing portraits, to help them ease themselves into it - I have a fun quick exercise that we do during workshops, that is really helpful. Hope you'll join me in painting tomorrow :)

Thank you Jane! I'm very curious why you use a colored pencil for sketching?
@JaneBeata
@JaneBeata 2 жыл бұрын
Hello there, someone asked that yesterday during premiere in a live chat too so I guess I could pin this comment and answer this in the best way I can :) 1. colored pencils don't have shine like graphite, they don't smudge, I like how they feel on paper - their touch is smoother and softer, I feel I have more control over them. I also do not loose my sketch as I add layers of watery paint - the waxy / oily component of colored pencils allows me to always find that mark needed as a guide. 2. color red especially in this case, sits well underneath the paint, allowing for hints of warmth to show through the final painting - I like this effect very much, works well with my "messy" approach to painting. Another plus for the red is that when I photograph the sketches for tutorials and walkthroughs, the thumbnails look nicer in color :) Red is also not as harsh as graphite (tone-wise) and most of it gets nicely covered by the skin tones. Some people really dislike graphite showing through their painting, this might be a solution for them. 3. It's not a rule. I do not always use it, you don't have to use it - I vary the materials a lot, especially now when I'm experimenting all the time. Take the materials used for a tutorials with some room for substitution - and hope that helps!

To get accurate proportion- take a snap and put it in a Procreate or any other app which has Layer. Then make the original photo transparent and resize ur snap, put it on the top layer. You’ll see the exact mistake

Of course, very helpful too! Slightly less handy though, for people not using those programs and just drawing.
