Oh Karen, thank you for a wonderful tutorial on lips..I finally found some blending stumps yesterday at Hobby Lobby..Had to go about an hour away to get them, but found them, I was so excited...so I seen this tutorial and thought I would follow along...well I have to say, they turned out pretty good..my first time doing anything like this..and I was also lucky and found a 10 piece pencil set..7 graphite and 3 charcoal..so now to go back and listen to your face and nose videos, to see how to use these pencils...oh yes, and Hobby Lobby had these on clearence for 75% off..they have lots of great clearence there..not now...I think I have bought a good bit of it...LOL..who knew Christmas would come again so soon..LOL, and yes its snowing here in Iowa now..and we are to get about another 8 " ..Spring will be here around July 4...maybe..HAHAH..thanks again for all your teaching videos.

Teresa Marsh oh man, that's a total score!!! I am avoiding my Hobby Lobby at all costs because it's all new and shiny and I know that once I go in chances are I will never come out (and my kids are still young and everything so.....)

Thanks for another great tutorial Karen 😍. 3 questions... Is there an advantage to using woodless over the wood graphite pencils? Do you get more graphite “ dust” from these since there is a bigger graphite amount ? Do they break easily when sharpening them? As always, love your videos 💝💝💝💝
@KarenCampbellArtist
@KarenCampbellArtist 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Donna! No advantage that I know of, I just like 'em in my hand! They are heavy and cool feeling and I tend to like my pencils weighted which is why I usually use a heavier mechanical pencil. They sharpen up ok just fine!

Have you ever added watercolour at this point in your pencil drawing?

I'm self taught and have never taken a class in school or anything. I always believed you had to have an innate drawing talent to be an artist. Then I discovered abstract and your book. Abstract/ whimsical, etc is ultimately the way I'd like to draw when my skill gets there. I kind of get confused between realistic and whimsical. Is it beneficial to learn realism first and then abstract?
@KarenCampbellArtist
@KarenCampbellArtist 6 жыл бұрын
Nicole Leckner that is a seriously great question. And a deep one. And probably the answer will be different depending on who you ask and what the background is of that person! For starters, I do think it is beneficial to have a basic understanding of realistic drawing to be awesome at whimsical drawing. To me though, that doesn't necessarily mean you have to be good at it or master it, but you must have an intellectual understanding of it. Fir example, you need to know that the eyes are an eye width apart so that they are spaced out correctly. Does this mean you have to literally be able to draw realistic eyeballs? No!!! But you should be aware of some basic realistic principles. Does that make sense? Also, I think its 10000% fine to forge into the whimsy side of things without a proper realistic education background because art is 1) subjective anyways 2) supposed to be fun!!! 3) it should be whatever you want it to be!!!! And as I just read this response aloud to my 11 year old, he sums my response up in this way: NO. Hahahahahha so there you have it! Our 2 cents 😊😊😊
