How to Draw a Simple still life in Charcoal

In this demo - I show a rubbing out drawing exercise. The trick is to get reference material with strong tonal contrast. Also you need good paper that doesnt hold the charcoal in such a way you cant remove it with a rubber.
Its a bit messy but a great effect!

Yes I can see how this could really stretch your art thinking process does this median have to be on a smooth paper all I have is arches cold paper.. I saved up a year for a roll of arches not knowingvatvtime the difference between cold and hot(not).. I'm putting a xmas art wish list...for new material I did get charcoal pencils for five dollars with a coupon...lol the struggle is real being a new art student theres many different medians I want to try...but the cost is stopping me which is okay this forces me to get good at certain median and learn all I can from my teachers( thank you very much for your knowledge and skill sharing).....😷🎨👩‍🎨
