This just gets way more fun when you know hot it works. You literally explained it better in 10 minutes, than my arts teacher in 5 hours. "Just use common sense" she said. Then she proceeded to show random and weird looking stuff without explanation. You just explaned it. We will write an exam on this tomorrow and you just saved my butt. Thanks.

Essentially. The planes that are parallel to the light source receive no light, while planes that are perpendicular (90 degree angle) receive the most light. At least, this is my understanding of the rule.

Great video and very useful info. However there's one question I can't find the answer to. Where the faces meet everyone draws a line. However in real life there is no line. How does one figure out the transition at the edge ? Should you just have clean values to start out with and gradually shade to the precise edge or is there a line where the light transitions. All my attempts seem to give a soft look.
@ArtofWeiHo
@ArtofWeiHo 2 жыл бұрын
It's all about seeing the values. Use your light lines just for reference only, then shade from there. You shouldn't see your lines after you've finished shading. If you can still see the lines, that means it's too dark, obviously.

question: why do some cubes have the highlights on the edges? is the shape's edges less defined in order to get that highlight effect? or do all cubes show highlight edges?
@ArtofWeiHo
@ArtofWeiHo 2 жыл бұрын
Unless it's perfectly sharp, then there wouldn't be a high, but since most objects are not perfectly sharp on the end, you're basically seeing the rounded corner. Small as it is, it'll catch some highlights.
