Tbh this is exactly how I learned anatomy and poses. Copying is a useful tool but I think so many get caught up on tracing and cheating but this is seriously how you train your eye and make sense of the literal shapes of the body.
@ashvish88562 жыл бұрын
Is referencing same as tracing? Please explain in detail.
@mereum91052 жыл бұрын
@@ashvish8856 no it is not the same as tracing using a reference is not cheating
@pivotalpancake54542 жыл бұрын
Jesus, this is probably why I can't improve lmao. I catch myself countless times trying to "copy" the entire thing per se, than "understanding" and thinking about them. Also, I don't use references anymore and I just listen to KZbin while I draw. So maybe I should cut back on those things while learning lmao.
@halzion2 жыл бұрын
@@pivotalpancake5454 It's been a month, have you improved? I'm sorta in the same boat because I've drawn for so long where I just "trace" without the shapes leading to no learning until like a week ago but i keep accidentally going back to "tracing" rather than "shaping" (lol)
@pivotalpancake54542 жыл бұрын
@@halzion Well, I may haven't improved a lot that much. But I can say that my hand drawings are getting more better than when I've used to do them. Mainly because I actually try to study/break down how they work from my real hand. It kinda inspired me a bit that I can indeed learn if I actually study how the thing actually works. Even without the advanced anatomical knowledge. I'm trying to learn dog anatomy, because I've been trying to take a break from drawing humans, and it's going pretty fine I guess. Although I still haven't improved a huge lot.

@dreamingahopefuldream44393 жыл бұрын
I went into this expecting to learn something new but turns out its the same stuff I've already been doing for the past couple years lol. Either way it helps solidify my confidence in looking at references. I feel like the tip "get better at anatomy" is super unhelpful since it doesn't really teach you anything except to try and perfect the way the anatomy looks and not anything else. Your anatomy doesn't need to look perfect, its something that can be learned over time!
@tincoeani95293 жыл бұрын
Well what you should really learn is "figure drawing" rather than raw anatomy. It helps you deconstruct the human shape in a more comprehensive way and it has different levels of complexity that you can go through as you get more confident.
@DreamyAileen3 жыл бұрын
Well, learning anatomy is still helpful. Obviously it doesn't need to be perfect (unless you're drawing an anatomical diagram or something), but I find that a good understanding of anatomy provides a solid base for character art. Especially in an art style like Anime or Manhwa. I think the misconception that a lot of people have towards anatomy is that they think they're supposed to learn anatomy in a vacuum. Like studying diagrams and learning the names and functions of every individual bone and muscle and that sort of thing. But for artists, the knowledge alone isn't that important, it's learning how to _apply_ it to their art. For example, incorporating muscular anatomy into a drawing of a cute anime girl jumping up to spike a volleyball. Done right, it grounds the image in reality and makes it feel more alive. Anatomical knowledge is also a huge help in breaking down references. Want to draw a cute anime girl jumping up to spike a volleyball, but all you have is a picture of a buff guy jumping up to spike a volleyball? Anatomy has your back. Sort of.

Anatomy & proportion is different, so its not necessary to learn anatomy much, just enough to apply to the style u want to achieve. Here, the joints is a part of anatomy. Proportion, gesture & perspective is necessary more than anatomy, they're the main part of contructing anything (even cartoony styles).

if all else fails usually i just take a picture of myself in the pose and perspective (cause sometimes its hard to find that one combination of the two youre looking for) and use that as my reference. i put on white and/or tighter clothes so that i can get the outline of my body easily and see where my limbs are since black or darker colours can just blend together bc its harder to see shadows, esp if the clothes are baggy. i dont do this often though since i generally avoid drawing bodies anyway but this is usually what i do for hands. when i do the outlines and basic shapes i just fine tune it to fit my artstyle in the end like making the legs longer or something. my other option for when i'm feeling lazy is getting one of my sister's very articulated barbie dolls and use that as a reference instead. my only issue is that dolls are a lot stiffer and sometimes the poses can come out janky looking bc the articulation makes the knees or elbows look huge.

Broader chest and shoulders give the illusion of shortness, torso usually blocky,
@jawbreaker81252 жыл бұрын
Length proportions are the same if you refer to the head method. So 2 heads, nipples. 3 heads, navel/elbow, etc etc. The real difference is in the width ratio between male and female: females usually have their largest point in their hip/thighs area, while usually males have broader shoulders and smaller hips. Think 2 heads width for females shoulders, 2 1/2 for males, almost 3 for very muscular bodies. Males tend to have more prominent muscles and straighter features while females are usually softer and rounder. Male's ribcage is also a little longer than female's, so females tend to appear bottom-heavy with longer legs and shorter torso. Obviously it depends on the body tipe you're drawing but these are good guidelines if you're just starting.

May I share some art tips I follow for anatomy in my drawings? The ears are never gonna be higher than the eyes (or no one could wear glasses) Women tend to have shorter busts and longer legs compared to men Hands are allined to upper-to-mid-thigh The head is usually about the size of the chest (depends on the artstyle though, it clearlt does work with chibis) The distance between two eyes is as large as an eye The hair doesn't stay attached to the head unless it's wet or dirty. Give. It. FLOOF Fun fact: do you know that pectoral number varies from person to person? Most people have 6 or 8 packs, but there are those with 4 and 10 packs, and even with unever numbers. I once saw a picture of a 7-pack. The numbers of muscles doesn't change, it's just the legaments(?) My brother explained it to me after studying anatomy
