Me at the beggining: it's just lines; easy peasy. Also me: How do I make a line? Why this looks like my tablet stopped working and I doodled all over the place?

I'd like to shout out Adam Warren of the comic Empowered, because he often times includes little tidbits about comic arts in the comments on the web version of the comic, which is where I first learned about speed lines. He also mentions using a french curve when drawing them to get a consistent curvature.

When you got to the part where you asked what are some examples of comics where they use speed lines well, I was going to say the first one that comes to my mind is ONE PUNCH MAN and then you said it and I busted up laughing! That's awesome! XD Another manga with really great use of speed lines is BERSERK.

A lot of people have recommended Bezerk to me, I still need to check it out.

@@walterostlie you totally should! It's a really amazing and epic story (still ongoing). It's pretty mature and violent but if that doesn't bother you the story and art are really top tier. 🙌 It's Berserk by Kentaro Miura (just in case there are any other comics out there by the same name)
@AlooParantha_31110 ай бұрын
Berserk and there's also Fullmetal Alchemist. The author uses so many speed lines in her panels and they're never confusing

Very helpful!! Thank u so much! I have question.. if theres no motion blur in my program is there a Way to mimick its effect? :(
@walterostlie4 жыл бұрын
I don't use it, but you may be able to try another program specifically for that feature. Or if your program has a smudge tool, you could duplicate the layer and use a very large brush size for the smudge tool at a low setting. Maybe create a duplicate of the file, lower the resolution pixels, then increase it back to the original size to make it blurry, paste that over the original file and shift it to the side slightly. Just random ideas, I haven't tried any of these.

I want to make a slice of life Webtoon, how much panels do you recommend?
@walterostlie3 жыл бұрын
Really it needs to come down to your schedule. Think about how many panels you can do a week, month, or whatever and plan the story around that. Can you do 10 panels a week. Think about your story and how you can make 10 panels full enough for your reader. Maybe you can get enough story across in 10 panels, so maybe you need to do bi-weekly updates of 20 panels. or monthly updates of 40 panels. Plan around your life. A lot of popular comics are doing 50-80 panels a week, but they are getting money and maybe doing it full time, so don't put that pressure on yourself if you're not doing it full time. Now if your slice-of-life comic is kind of a joke or gag-a-day comic, you can get away with less panels, just enough to get the joke across.

Any drawing tablet will work especially if you're just starting off. Something like this is going to be perfect for jumping in and testing out digital art amzn.to/2YMOAom. If you want a drawing monitor tablet and have $300+ you can get something like amzn.to/32D2uLd Or if you have tons of money, anything from Wacom is gonna be pretty excellent.
