Hi from germany, I found your channel yesterday and combine this potrait tutorial and your monster manual redraw "challenge". I draw a potrait a day and hope to get better. I have zero experience in drawing but love your "simple style" drawings and hope this is a goal i can reach. Thanks a lot for all of your videos!

Ok I haven't thought about those books in years! They definitely got me interested in drawing back in the day! Thanks for the reminder. This would be a great idea for players if they wanted sidekicks or hirelings. Write some stats on the back and hand them to your players, as you would do for new magic items.

Neat! But yeah, when I start a new series of paintings I set up a 'style bible' that contains all the things that should show up in each painting/sculpture including palettes for settings, characters and subjects. Hey! Do you have one for magic items? Or maybe monsters? It'd be fun to see how to break down those into elements.

This was super inspiring, I started making a portrait for my new campaign character, and then I heard your comments about magic cards, so of course I had to work in stats and actions, and hours later now I'm making what is essentially a quick reference card for my character sheet! Thank you!

Question for you, JP. I'm struggling with drawing women with short, coily hair in this style. Could you suggest some tips to help with this?
@JPCoovert3 жыл бұрын
Curly hair is tricky! Think about hair the same way you do with the rest of the drawing, slowly building up the shapes. So start with the outer shape of the hair, very simple. Then abstract the curls with some squiggles. Try a few different kinds. Sorry if this isn't super helpful, just don't give up!
@HighbridgeD3 жыл бұрын
@@JPCoovert No, that does help actually. When I studied the hairstyles you provided in your style guide, I noticed that it was all about the outline or profile of the hair. That made me think about the video you did drawing from a silhouette. But yes, coily or curly hair is quite the challenge, as it didn't seem to work in that same style. I'll keep at it, my character deserves that much!
