As an electrician, I was wincing as soon as you put up the "Do not do this" warning after showing the broken lamp 😬. "Is he gonna...Francis, the plug!!" Lol. But if you have to get zapped, that's the one you want, in one finger, through the hand and out the other finger....but it will let you know you f#*$ed up and will certainly wake you up! Great video with lots of helpful tips! Keep rocking Francis!

Yeah, dude I don't know how I didn't check the plug. I think I was so focused on changing the bulb right away so I can get back to work, I didn't even think... I was gonna edit this event out as I didn't want to give the wrong message, but realized me skipping the step of checking was relevant to the idea of not taking short cuts lol

At 2:35, what size/dpi is the panel you're working on? I feel you've probably mentioned it in a past video, but I can't recall. Thanks for this video!
@FrancisManapulArt Жыл бұрын
Hey Chauncey, the entire canvas is w2082 x h4557 pixels at 300dpi. On that canvas I can get in about 22 pages of thumbnails for the book.

That was kind of a cute episode. I really like the topics you pick. It always touches bits and pieces of the lives most people have. Like, don´t google symptoms. My wife woke me up last night at 1am because she googled some symptons of our son and now we have a doctors appointment for a rare disease that kinda happens more now because of covid. She is a nurse so i trust her since she knows this stuff well better than i do. But you will always find some horrible thing googling anything :D The thing with the shortcuts is something i happen to run into every few months again. I know better, but when you feel the flow you want to have all the stuff behind you to get into rendering the image and then you fall flat on your face a few days later lol. Shortkeys are my endboss. Like there´s the few i always use in every program and then theres all the others which i constantly keep forgetting :D One of those things your mind is totally aware of how helpfull they are but you never get around to actually learn them lol
@FrancisManapulArt Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, I mostly choose topics that are pertinent to that particular day. And yeah... google can be helpful but also terrifying lol

The music was so epic! I love the fact that you chose to clean up before starting. It’s so overlooked but so insanely helpful. An amazing vid as always. Breathtaking digital artwork - it turns out to look like it was done with physical pen and inks. I love the sandy looking ink wash; it really adds texture. Just one question spiraling off of your awesome answer from the other video: do you always tend to use 11x17 for your own physical projects? Thanks! Looking forward to the next one.
@FrancisManapulArt Жыл бұрын
Thanks Owen! Yeah I sometimes like to do tidy to get me into the mindset of completing tasks. I also find it difficult to concentrate when its too cluttered. When I draw traditionally, yes 11x17 is the most common size I use.

Ok 👌🏼 that makes sense. Thanks!

Can you do a quick video on the dimensions you work in for a comic page and how do you export it, i.e., do you export a layered photoshop file for colorists, etc.?
@FrancisManapulArt6 ай бұрын
This video has a quick recap of my final art dimensions. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZS8fqadpKyfrbcsi=qVk_b1FoaLgNvRDV If I draw digitally, yes they get layers. If traditional it's a flat layer. Hope that helps.
@JohnPatricio6616 ай бұрын
@@FrancisManapulArt Thanks, Mr. Manapul. Do you still have the DC file templates available? Just a suggestion, but you should do aspiring comic book artist Portfolio Critiques for viewers. I've noticed those type of videos are popular. By the way, Clear is cool.

sorry if this makes me sound like an art neophyte, but what's the glove for? does it support your grip and stop hand fatigue?

Awesome episode Francis! Just loving this series. When you are working on pages quickly, do you use a lot of photo ref for poses/lighting when you go to your ink phase? I feel like between that and perspective is where I get caught up trying to achieve the look I want. Do you pull most of that from your mind? Thanks again!
@FrancisManapulArt Жыл бұрын
Almost never... not because I don't need it. Often I find looking for reference cumbersome and time consuming so I do have a tendency to make things up, for better or worse. Of course I did visual studies in the past of things I didn't know how to draw. hope that helps
@jeremydelagarza8317 Жыл бұрын
@@FrancisManapulArt Thanks Francis, that helps a ton. Honestly, I think I'm gonna try not to use as many references, it definitely eats up an immense amount of time for me. It's refreshing to hear, so thanks again!
