I remember when I went there, did Flynn Rider (looked more like John smith lol) and at the end you asked us a question saying what was the name of the pub there, I raised my hand and said the snuggly ducking and got your drawing, so cool to see you drawing it here, bring back really good memories!

These videos are amusing. I know it's for kids and it should be simple but I can't help but think of it as of building a house starting from the roof and going down, attaching bricks from below. I mean, they take a developed character that has complicated set of simple shapes put together the right way, one in a million, and bring it down to "draw a line here". It's hilarious when you know how they REALLY see it and draw it. Cause the distances and thinking in 3D even for a 2D character is top priority and drawing lines is final stage and here it's upside down. =)
@KendallFalk8 жыл бұрын
exactly, although there are some great pointers here, hehe you gotta get the body in there too!
@HoshiHikari8 жыл бұрын
Mallory SF these videos are really just for drawing beloved characters one specific way. It's building only one kind of house. They don't really teach you the reasoning behind the lines which is why it feels like you're starting from the roof down. I get there's only so much time in the day to teach, but other than children, I think budding artists are the ones interested in these videos and they definitely need resources to learn the architectural background for these beloved houses.

i have always wondered do animators really use steps when they draw or is that to just help people that don't know how to draw? If anyone can explain i will really appreciate it
@frojhe38548 жыл бұрын
In fact animators didn't use guide at first : they start the animation and concentrate on the mouvement. After they do some redraw with the chara design and some guides. And of course after that the Cleaner take care to clean the drawing of course and to erase all the little mistakes of design and other. I hope it was usefull, it's a bit resume.
@votf65808 жыл бұрын
thanks Frojhe, i'm going into animation but i can also draw really good with or without guidelines but i tend to use them for certain things like positioning a character and i didn't know if that makes me bad at drawing or not
@HoshiHikari8 жыл бұрын
Keishawn Wray it is neither good nor bad. Drawing without guidelines can be faster and therefore more efficient for your job, but it is ultimately a preference or habit. I actually think it's good to get the structure down for things you aren't used to drawing.
@juliusroman86164 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you know the answer by now, but Disney animators do use something like this to get the proportions right, like in character sheets for Tangled The Series and stuff, they show how tall the character is compared to others to make sure it stays consistent.

Those initial geometric lines and shapes should be only used for beginner artists, usually children between the ages of 7-12 approximately ( I mean as a technique which they can always use at that age no matter how many times they have drawn a character). And secondly the type of shape used should more mirror the shape which you will have at the end, i.e., here the basic contour of the head is not clearly illustrated at the beginning. That contour should first be drawn completely and then nose, eyes, and mouth lines next. To understand better what I mean look at Lee Ames' 50 Famous Faces. You work from general to specific. You draw the largest shapes first and work on small details at the end. Because the head or body is the largest that is where you start. But remember this method is not permanent. It is just to introduce you to a particular character and help you master it. If you are mature in age (13 years and older) the structure which they illustrate is something you internalize and process just mentally after you master the character. What you actually draw is something like what the Disney animator Eric Goldberg draws. And there you don't necessarily draw the character with its parts in any order. You can start with the nose, or the head, or the eyes, etc. Whatever works best. Some people have better visual memory and can skip over that structured method, but if they don't it usually requires repeated practice to master just one character (and there I mean many different angles and poses). There were and are cartoonists that still use that structural technique. Hal Foster used it I know at least in some of his figures and faces. But it is not used by most cartoonists and is not really recommended.
