I think this would have been better with verbal explanation and both Mac and Windows keyboard shortcuts displayed. Also this didn't really answer the question posted of what it is, (maybe where it was derived from or how it was invented or discovered) and how to apply it. I know there are tons of other videos showing how to apply this but I was looking forward to the unique way of explaining things that you guys usually bring.

Yes i would like to see how the golden ratio applies to multiple formats, not just a Landscape or Portrait rectangle, but other sizes like a wide banner or 16:9 film... Or is the rule of thirds better for these applications?
@josephuia
@josephuia 5 жыл бұрын
Johnzilla sure but if you look at it simply it’s just halving any size square, drawing the hypotenuse then laying it flat from the center lower point of the square and using that extending line to finish off the second rectangle...

Nice chris! I actually came across a golden ratio video after watching your guys' video on the $25 to $2500 logo. This guy explains the mathematics to creating the golden ratio, maybe you guys can incorporate that in a future breakdown video on the golden ratio, how it works and maybe the process going from sketch to digital and how to apply it to designs! 😁

This is a nice thing, no doubt about it, and I had seen it before. Now... From what I recall, and now it means that either me or you (it can be me, I admit, considering that I've learned the golden ratio around 20 years ago...) got this wrong, meaning, From a square, you «drop» the diagonal into the «bottom side» of it, and THEN when it is placed in the same line where the «bottom» side of the square is, you «lift» it, paralel with the upper sides, and THEN you close the rectangle. The difference between what I've learned what you guys have done here is a bit. I start the diagonal from the left bottom corner up to the top right corner. You guys start the diagonal from half of the square, same being the same, so it seems. I do not say that I am right, I just say that I remember this information I've told you as the right one. Can someone «direct» me to where did you got this information from? Then, another question, the Fibonacci sequence seems correct, but how to you apply it to the following squares? What is the relation between 3 of them? Is the first one the same area of the following two? Is the next what to the previous one? I didn't got that, sorry... I saw how you did draw them, but did not understood how that correlated with the Fibonacci, sorry again...
@thefutur
@thefutur 7 жыл бұрын
if you search "how to draw golden rectangle" you'll find a ton of diagrams on how to do it. it's what i based it on. Fibonacci sequence= 1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,44 The big Square was 440pts, 210pts, 130pts, 80pts, 50pts, 30pts, 20pts, 10pts.
@mguerra79
@mguerra79 7 жыл бұрын
I got «triggered» because of this. Either I made, all over this years, this major confusion, or I just «mixed» two concepts all together, this being the way in Europe (at least in Portugal) the Ax kind of paper is cutted, meaning, and at least for the paper, that description I made is correct, that I checked, you drop the diagonal and create a rectangle where the diagonal falls. For some reason (and yes, all over the place it is mentioned like this, to create one like you did) I got that mixed. So strange. I always considered, for the last years, that international paper Ax, A4, A3, whatever, was «golden rulled»... Sorry. There is a saying that you'd better have your mouth shut and look stupid rather than open and confirming it... Thank you! It was clearly me, messing it up...

@kelepons6
@kelepons6 7 жыл бұрын
frankly, your illustrator skills are not too impressive. drawing each element separately and then dragging them around manually is kinda slow and not very precise. i would start start with the smallest square in the middle. then copy-paste-in-front (cmd-c, cmd-f) one corner point (it takes the two adjacent sides with it). drag the corner radius thingy to the red, you get the curve with endpoints exactly over the square's corners. now group the square and the curve together, drag-copy, creating the second square, rotate it and fit both together from align palette "distribute spacing", "vertical", "zero". select both and copy the height value from transform palette, drag-copy another square with the curve inside, rotate, paste height value, fit together and so on. keep the "scale stroke weight" unchecked. this way to construct the whole thing takes literally a few seconds.
@thefutur
@thefutur 7 жыл бұрын
Walter Werner thanks for the tips. I'm not professing to be an expert at Ai. Sometimes while drawing this, it did occur to me that it could have been done more efficiently. It's the first time I've ever drawn the golden ratio.

@The Futur I use a PC and am highly efficient with mouse and keyboard (as efficient as this video was being). The keyboard shortcuts are perfectly adapted from Mac to PC once you know what the keyboard symbols are for cmd, option, shift, space, etc. and how to switch from cmd to ctrl, option to alt, etc. It took me some time but my muscle memory can now seamlessly switch between Mac and PC keyboards.
