Whenever one of my players ask 'Whats the difference in the Maps the NPC hands us or that we can buy between Poor, Good, Excellent, & Professional" -- I will show them the difference in the mountain details! xD Excellent video man. Thank you.

I mostly use a mix of the ridge technique and individual shaded mountains and it's extremely fun. Thanks for sharing these with us!

Great stuff. I really like the idea of breaking down different map elements and focusing on how each one can be done. Thanks.

I just found these videos of yours, and damn are they good. Not only are they informative, but they also give me ASMR tingles, which is awesome. xD

Really useful for what I'm doing. So many techniques I've never seen before. But my favourite is your seventh example.

On the point that contour maps don't work as well on a larger scale - bear in mind you can scale up the contours as well! The same method that indicates specific peaks when there's a contour for every 50m elevation could, on a larger map, indicate broad mountainous areas with contours for every 500m elevation. At that scale you might start putting little triangles here and there to indicate the peaks of specific notable mountains.

I think that how you draw the map will greatly depend on where the map is going to show up, if you find it in a magical Chest out in the ultimate labyrinth of death it's going to be really in depth and well designed, but if you're buying it from a map shop that mass produces maps for people, then it's probably going to be drawn using easier methods to be able to make maps as fast as possible

Been drawing maps and I realize that I do the 2nd method as default. Have you done a demo video on how to draw chasms on a map? In the maps I do I detail my cities lol The 6th method is cool. Good video mate!

How do you decide on the scale of the map? I am trying to do a world map and decided that perhaps 1 inch = 1000 miles. Is that to much? Should I make the scale 1" = 500 miles?

In terms of wideness of mountain chains you really shouldn't be using the Rockies as an example, look at the Himalayas, the Alps, the Andes. The rocky mountains I really huge outlier.

The second one definitely looks the nicest, and everything after the elevation map looks terrible to me. I'll stick with the 3-D ones. :p I wonder though, if an area is Mesa does it still use Mountain as its map marker? Or should I try another technique?
@KainusGulch10 жыл бұрын
for a mesa, i might do the slanted sides like a mountain, then the flat or less slanted top, and then fit in some lines or shaded rides under the level line, because mesas have those gullies and troughs from the sudden rains and stuff. if that makes any sense. maybe draw an angled shape of the top, and then do the angled sides to make it a little 3D kinda, that might work, too, maybe. I hope you can see that yer brains.
