Man I hate those drawing tutorials that just Speedpaints of the lineart. Nothing about construction, sketching, bases, shape, basically everything that actually makes the character the character aside from the finished lineart.

BayLaugh Animations tbh the sonic vid kinda explains everything. Every character he drew in his style has short limbs. Their shoes aren't much different either. All we have to worry for each character is the muzzle, body, spikes/hair and face.

3:24 - 4:07: I hear that they made him brown because real red foxes don't become orange until they become older, this would imply that since Tails in AoStH is 4 1/2 to 6 1/2 years old, he hasn't gotten that orange color yet.

Tails is brown because they got the colors from a sprite of tails from the development of sonic 2. I just found that out.

Did you know that in Japan, kawaii is not just the japanese word for cute, it also refers to the affection of a parent towards a child coupled with the protectiveness for the innocent and weak, which fits Tails' and Sonic's relationship quite nicely

For 1992 it was split into 2 separate designs since Japan was more focused on it's market while in America Sega wanted the design to be all cool and fit into the mainstream that's why sonic has two separate designs toei and American and prefer the toei version because it's cute and it's adorable

A little fact about tails: back in the 90s, tails used to have a little hair fluff on the side or back of his head. It's seen in some artwork of him from the 90s but for some reason, sega removed the head fluff in his newer designs for no reason.

That intro..... Is exactly the way I felt when people would "show how to draw whatever it is" and then they just draw it, not explaining anything about ANY technique, not mentioning anything about shapes to have a foundation to build upon or ANY art theory at all-what so ever. One of the best laughs I've ever had and pretty damn fine drawings of cool characters from old games. This is a great channel.

Really late, but there are two things I would add. 1. Unlike Sonic and Knuckles, Tails' mouth tends not to track the viewer, instead staying closer to the center of his face, not only to help make him look cuter, but also to better contrast his reserved smile with Sonic's smug smirk. 2. Tails' shoes often take a shape different from Sonic's. Less pointed at the ends, rounder overall (though not always), and a little bit larger. This does vary between artists, but generally is the case.

Nerdy correction: the sonic OVA ep 1 came out in jan 26, 1996. i dont know the reason why the ova launched in 1999 for the rest of the world (im guessing to join both ep 1 and 2 and to dub it in other languages) but in america it came out as a "movie" even though its just ep 1 & 2 edited toughether.

I like the video! I will say though the way your drawing tails feels a little bit off, and im not quite sure why. If i had to guess i would say its a mix between the eyes and the head. Most of your drawings have his head facing up, which makes him look more confident where as most classic tails drawings will have him either looking down or to the side, its rare to see him from an ants eye view. In terms of his eyes i cant quite explain it without drawing them myself, but they tend to be thinner and more angled than you have them here, your drawings resemble more of a modern tails design than a classic one. Those are just two criticisms though, besides that i love how you draw him! Also is that you at the start? Didnt think youd be so cute haha ;P
