I wonder how the stills paired with their respective scenes in the movie would match up with the voice acting versus this art style - I almost wonder if Ben Schwartz's sonic would work well in a classic interpretation instead! This was awesome to watch, thank you for this!! Keep drawing

3 years later I came back to this masterpiece of a video after seeing you turn Sonic 3 into an anime recently. Great art pieces by the way. Honestly, I still love how you explain how to make Junio Sonic look correct and how expressive it is over all. Although it DOES make me wonder… since Junio Sonic is a style of Classic Sonic art, I wonder how a Modern Junio Sonic would look like… I’d imagine he’d be a bit taller and spikes might be a big longer. Not to mention the green eyes and all. Too bad it’s not likely we’ll see Studio Junio do that, but what they gave us is already so amazing. One animation (or two if you count the ending as a separate thing) changed the way some people would envision Sonic forever, and that’s dope.

It's a personal reference sheet I made when I was designing Knuckles for Sonic Freedom. Another great resource is a book called "How to Draw Sonic and the Gang" by Troll Associates. There are PDFs available on the internet.

Question: why use vector layers for lineart, rather than raster?

Editability and scaling, in case the lines are too thick in some areas. I only really use them when creating cel shaded art. It also helps with quickly creating spikes. I have a "tips for animation in CSP" video that goes over its many uses.
