4/4/2021 USA Grandpa Bill: Sir, I watched this video, then scanned all the video thumbnails from 2013 when you began. Now I have subscribed. I feel you are a sincerely loving-hearted person with a desire to share and help people grow. Your love of drawing and joy in art is as well-developed as your technical ability. Thank you for being on KZbin, and I wish I had stumbled onto your channel sooner. Our American school system has historically stunted 10-year-old minds by dropping artistic endeavor and focusing on the three R's: "Reading, Riting, and Rithmatic". Ask any untrained adult in America to draw a man, a woman, a house, a cat, and a dog and a tree, and the drawings will look like a 10-year-old did them. That's because a 10-year-old did draw them. We pick up where we left off, stunted but not disabled, needing only some encouragement. Now thankfully, there is KZbin, and you, and people such as yourself who began as sincere sharing people and not as money-grubbing thumpers trying to use KZbin merely as a means of income. It's in the heart, in the voice, in the eyes of the artist. You glow.

To the people that are not too confident in their artwork: Of course drawing figures like these will absolutely NOT end up being perfect in the beginning. They key to art is, well, practice. Reasons why your art may seem inaccurate is ~You're new to art ~You take awhile to learn how to draw accurately ~You are paying too much attention to your mistakes ~You just don't feel confident ~Etc In order to improve quickly, things like speedpaints and tutorials help, also, keep confidence and keep practicing as much as possible. Draw every day if you can.

I’ve been doing art for about 5-6 years ( which in the long run isn’t really that long) and honestly it’s so nice to go and have a refresher for these kinds of things. My art isn’t really all that good but I know the basics and the proportions. Even if you think you know everything watching these kinds of videos are still helpful because you can forget things as well as learn something new.

I've never felt comfortable using figure guide setups. It makes me feel constricted and also too distracted from the actual drawing (even though the guides are there to help). I dont know why this happens, but it means I have to everything from imagination, and do a lot more erasing of certain areas like the head shape when in strange angles, and lately my bodies have been looking too wide for some reason which makes the arms look too small. It might be because I've started using a sort of "spinal centre line" for making counterposes or other more shapely poses easier to draw, other than that its a random new problem. The only guide I've been able to truly adopt and have any success with is the simple "face cross" just 2 lines, and I leave out the 3rd mouth height line. People tell me I can draw pretty well, but I take ages and I'm usually not happy with my results and I just cant seem to get any better or quicker these days lol.

It is a good idea to buy a little mannequin for complicated poses that you aren't sure how they look. I got one recently and it's been very helpful.
@quickscopedmofo11 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on the artist.. I know for myself, I like to use one mainly to get an idea. I don't necessarily follow the mannequin religiously.
@indoraptor1234510 жыл бұрын
I've always found mannequins to be extremely restrictive in their poses.
@NotaWalrus110 жыл бұрын
Michael Indo Yes, they can be restrictive at times, but they're excellent for getting a hang of the body proportions and the angles in common poses. I have three different mannequins (for men, women and children) and I can attest to their usefulness.
@ncshuriken10 жыл бұрын
Michael Indo Me too, I was never able to make use of it. On my one, the joints are all heavily arthritic and have a tiny range of motion. When it comes to poses I just try to find similar reference poses to wangle into what I'm after, or just try to wing it and do everything with no pose ref, usually resulting in infuriating perspective & angling problems. Interesting poses, and their relation to proportions is one of my biggest weaknesses man. If the pose is boring, the proportions are usually fine, but if the pose is cool and imaginative, theres gonna be some issues lol.

Thank you so much for making this video! Before I watched it, I started with the head and had no guidelines whatsoever. I couldn't draw in different angles at all! This is the most helpful drawing video I've ever watched! :)
