I tried this way of sketching: Best sketch I have ever done of my nephew - and I tried it with a biro. I can't believe how realistic my effort came out. I'm going to dedicate one sketch book to this style. Fabulous, informative technique. Many thanks.

Thanks for this lesson on getting away from lines. Sometimes I abandon my drawings because my lines aren't accurate and I can't fix them, or won't just out of frustration. I'll try this on a new portrait I'm about to start.
@ArtofWeiHo9 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Landwer Well, I would suggest to not worry too much about accuracy in your drawing. The accuracy will come the more you draw because you'll be able to measure with your eye better and better. Continuing your drawing will have great benefit as it works in all the other areas of drawing, like shading, composition, and hand control. People get caught up in accuracy and never finish a portrait. If you need it to be exact, just trace it.
@t-72k169 жыл бұрын
Art of Wei Great advice, i too find myself not being very accurate, and your right i just need to finish it and allow myself to slowly get better
@ArtofWeiHo9 жыл бұрын
Smokey Adventures Yup, happens to all of us. Just remember it's never about one drawing, it's about thousands of drawings, so don't get caught up in one.

I really like how you draw. As well as how you shade your drawings, you make it look very simple and realistic. What pencil were you using in the video? I usually shade with a regular graphite or mechanical pencil. My only problem with shading, is that when it is a light area I end up accidentally putting dark marks on it. Blending the light/dark areas seems to be hard for me.
@ArtofWeiHo9 жыл бұрын
TheJeffandLupeShow Official I usually use a 2B for general drawing and light shading, then I'll use a 4B and sometimes a 6B for those really dark areas.

Zoro Allam I always say the more you draw from reference, the easier it is to draw from your imagination. You get better the more you draw correctly. I hope that helps.
@ArtofWeiHo9 жыл бұрын
Todd Cercone Thanks Todd, that is exactly what I was planning on saying. Draw from reference as much as you can, even when you're coming up with your own stuff, use references for your needs. ALL the artist I've seen do that.
