People learn differently. He’s not saying you should skip learning anatomy, but this is for those who want to get a feel for drawing a human body without having to learn all the theory first. This is actually how I learn, I need to get a feel for something then go back and break it down to more technical parts- it puts context to the tedious steps.

His title is click bait-ish. The title says without learning anatomy. It can be very misleading. I think its a misstep for someone who has almost 250k followers. I think a solid foundation in anatomy will set you up as a better long-lasting artist. If this isn't his intention he should not have titled it this way.
@milkyshakes4 жыл бұрын
Don Flores I don’t agree. This is an alternate process that doesn’t require you to initially to have knowledge of specific body parts and their relation to each other. Methods like this help you produce until you do learn anatomy and you have to title videos accordingly so people can find content that speaks to this. I personally find resources like this equally as useful as traditional learning resources because everyone’s approach to art is different especially because not everybody draws bodies as a main part in their artwork. Artwork is an expression, the process to how you get there is just as unique. People tend to get so wrapped up in what’s ‘right’ that they fail to explore the methods that stick for them. That is what truly delays and discourages artists. This is coming from someone who went to an art school and received a formal education.

You can definitely draw stylized from a picture without learning anatomy using shapes, grids, tracing, etc. But If you are drawing from life and getting shading and form right, learning anatomy is the key! I Took two life drawing classes drawing live models I really learned you can get the basic form and proportions without understanding anatomy, but to get the final details to make your work have depth and muscle tone understanding anatomy is the only way! Great video as always!!!

Everyone learns differently, hope this helps, as it was the way i learnt, basically, if you have a large body sized mirror, be a 10 year old cringy loser and pose like the character you want to draw, be as edgy or wholesome as you want, think about what emotion the character is going through in the scence and try to replicate that from your eyes down to your foot stance, take a timed photo if you can or just sketch a little with basic shapes and pose again until you have a full sketch, this is a slow process but once you understand the lines of your body, it becomes easier to do drawings without the posing

This isn't a bad method to start out with but personally I'd suggest starting out with gesture if you're a beginner to anatomy. Learning anatomy requires patience and can be a long arduous process, yet the results will be much more interesting because you can truly understand what you draw. If you deprive yourself of taking the time to learn it (or any of the fundamentals of drawing for that matter), you're doing yourself a disservice. Knowing anatomy won't hurt you as an artist, but avoiding it will.

@@ConcealedWeaponry Didnt expect a comment on this 2 years later haha. But yea for gesture- Alex Woo has a good class for it on Schoolism (online classes). I forgot what its called but if you search it up you'll find it. Michael Hampton's book "Figure Drawing Design and Invention" is also good since it covers gesture and anatomy in a way I found to be easy to understand if you draw along. Michael Mattesi's Force book series is really good for learning how to make figures more interesting and stylized, while also really feeling like they're standing in a space if that makes sense. Glenn Vilppu's figure drawing manuals cover gesture pretty well too. He also offers classes I think. Im sure there are also tons of vids here on youtube that can help but the ones I mentioned are ones that helped me.

As a a noob who's trying to do this "anatomy/reconstruction using 3d shapes" thing, my advice would be: a. To actually know how to draw these 3d shapes in whatever perspective and b. If you're drawing over a reference photo, to search for the perspective lines first (like, say if the shirt sleeve or something from the model is slightly curved instead of straight, you can use that to figure out how to draw your cylinder, instead of just trying to guess the angle of shapes). (Also, I recommend Richard Smitheman's videos on Figure drawing Fundamentals on YT, I'm only a quarter of the first video but I'm already learning a lot just from him drawing the torso as boxes and talking about how the collarbone works and stuff.)

I understand where you’re coming from. When I first made the jump to digital art from traditional I had a really hard time keeping my lines consistent. If I could offer you some tips that helped me though... 1. Practice makes permanent! Just take your time and allow yourself to make mistakes as you learn. Digital art, just like traditional, is highly dependent on muscle memory. 2. Screen covers make a HUGE difference as far as texture and slipperiness of the tablet is concerned. One of the first accessories I bought for my iPad when I got it was a matte screen protector so my pen can grip better. 3. Take advantage of the streamline feature! Most art programs (and Procreate ;) ) have the ability to automatically smooth your brush strokes right as you make them. It’s a good way to keep your lines clean as you adjust. What’s also nice is that it is adjustable so you can wean yourself off it as your muscle memory develops. Hope this helps!

pretty sure you can just use anything off the internet... I doubt anyone will figure it out unless you're looking to copy the exact colours and clothing and background etc, it's still artwork though even if you did that from a photo.

Im gonna try that definitely!

Should have came with a disclaimer: You're slowing your overall learning progress significantly. Just know you will never be able to truly invent poses, angles, manipulations, concepts etc etc and you will never be able to quickly sketch out ideas without your computer. If having pretty pictures to put on your Instagram is the only thing you're concerned about, than this method is great.

I probably know 5 different ways to draw or start drawing a figure. I think for a lot of people first learning to draw having all these different choices is confusing. I had a teacher tell me once "no matter which method you use it's all just shapes". Great video I hope a lot of beginners see this and are encouraged to look past all the "techniques" and just draw shapes. Thx

For anatomy you need NO theory. You have a body, friends with a body, you see movies, you have a family... You have references EVERYWHERE! To draw correctly you need to use your sight, that's all!

I still think it’s very important to study the very basics of gesture drawing and anatomy
@zagred76644 жыл бұрын
@@Beth-zv4hb maybe you are right. In my opinion, theory is completely useless, your sight is the only thing you need to improve (in drawing). For theory, even da Vinci was wrong. Example: Wingspan and height shall be equal (vitruvian man), but when you measure real people in real life, it's wrong... at least in 9/10 people, so...

@@zagred7664 I think it depends on the person. Personally I needed to study the very basics to understand how to draw the human body
@zagred76644 жыл бұрын
@@Beth-zv4hb can't object that. Everyone need to find their own style and needs.

The main reason why I like your tutorials is that they're easy to understand.

Gesture -> anatomy -> details Your method is scuffed and will make a lot of people suffer for a long time till they figure out that they shouldn't have been lazy and started out with the established basics.

when i was a designer. i always felt like i was locked for produce images and stuffs just for white people. So, i never painted or draw black people like me, with fear someone tel me "Why you draw that girl as black?". Do you think about that in your work?
