I literally had my first dream in French last night since I started learning it from scratch 3 months ago. I remembered in my dream saying "je veux apprendre le Français" which probably represents my strong desire to learn it fluently of late. Last night I was watching a KZbin video before I went to sleep of a guy who made a full video in French after learning the content for 4 months, so it made me feel quite rewarded that I could understand every single word he was saying for the whole video. As you can imagine now i'm YouTubing/Googling every bit of information on what dreaming in another language means 😂 a euphoric experience!

I often dream in a mix of languages, english, french, mandarin, cantonese, japanese, korean. Some of these dreams are just me speaking the very little vocabulary i know and struggling to communicate in my dream. Like for Japanese or Cantonese I only know words and phrases and can't make sentences. I wake up either stressed or feeling fulfilled haha

Thanks for answering my questions! The first dream I had in Spanish was of me walking by a pond and there was a man making arrows. I think he was asking me for directions but he spoke really fast. I just stood there not knowing what to say and pointed to the right. Recently I had a dream where I wasn't really speaking Scottish Gaelic but I was given an old coin from Scotland and I was pointing out how I understood some words. The coin was so beautiful! I hope I am able to have more dreams in both languages.

I've only had one dream in my foreign language so far but it really got me energized to keep studying after it happened. The dream was pretty mundane, ordering popcorn at a movie theater. :D

It's quite strange, I've been learning French for 2 years now and I have not (to my knowledge) had a single dream in French. However I have just recently started learning Korean (about 3 months ago) and a couple nights ago I actually had a dream in which people where speaking Korean! I think it was mostly nonsense Korean my brain put together with a few words here and there that I could understand, because that's the experience I have now when I listen to native speakers. The brain is weird.

Today I dreamed in English (Spanish is my mother tongue) for second time in my life, but this time I had a fluent conversation with a stranger, it was amazing

I've only had one or two dreams in Korean and it was me having a conversation with someone mostly in English but we spoke a few words of Korean too, as beginner it was pretty exciting for me 😁 I often wake up after a late night studying session having been dreaming of a grammar point, trying to move it around like a puzzle which is cool but strangely tiring 😂

Amazing video! The first time I dreamed in English I was living in Australia... (my mother tongue is Portuguese) from now on it happens quite often. Also in German and Spanish. Interestingly in French I've never dreamed in.. I guess it is not strong enough for that. Great topic! Professor X here. Stay safe.

Fun topic! I still remember my first dream in Chinese. It was right before my first state-wide speech competition. In the dream, I was absolutely killing the material, and speaking well above my level at the time. Funny how our brain deals with stress :)

I had a dream in Japanese recently that started out in English, and I was, I guess, interrogating somebody impersonating a Japanese person. So I switched to Japanese when I figured out he was an imposter. 🤣 So strange. I’m in an intermediate Japanese conversation class (highly recommend) and private lessons every week, plus host my own Japanese practice sessions on Discord or in person about every month.

On days where I have done a lot of language study, the head is just buzzing from what I have studied, and at night that somehow seems to continue. I am not sure that I can call that dreaming, it feels more like the brain is reorganizing itself and shoveling things around. At times, when it is a real dream, then it usually is in one of the languages that I speak fluently and not my study language, that is, if I can work out at all, in which language I have dreamed. Often I cannot tell though. There could be occasional words from my study language mixed in with my normal languages though.

i had dreams i was speaking sanskrit. i didn't know i was speaking a certain language but i would remember words. i wrote them down and eventually googled them. they were sanskrit which until then was a language i had never even heard of. what was weird was the words i was saying directly and accurately corresponded to what i happen to be doing in the dream just speaking a language i never knew but somehow my sub conscious did

This same thing happened to me, except I knew it was Turkish I was speaking . Crazy part is I know nothing about Turkey and was never interested in it before. It also corresponded to what I was saying and it kinda freaks me out. Idk but I think my subconscious is telling me to travel there lol.

Well, I am pretty sure it will not work out with me. I am the type of person that goes to sleep and suddenly is time to wake up again. The last time I actually had a dream was like 10 months ago and I don´t even remember what it was like.
