I’m a 3rd generation dozer operator and contractor from the southwest Fort Worth, Texas area. Even though I do commercial, residential, mining and all types of excavation. Soil conservation, Farm/Ranch work has always been my favorite and most personal rewarding work as a contractor and more so as an operator. It was a pleasure watching this video. I was right there with you from start to finish. Y’all do great work which is refreshing in todays times. A lot skidsteer folks getting in the business, but cleaning out stock ponds is still work for a Dozer and excavator. Cleaned a lot of ponds out over the years with just a dozer, but wow… the help and increase in production an excavator brings. It takes a lot of the fight out for the dozer. Bottom line is, I wanted to personally say… great job with much respect. It’s always a pleasure watching good operators work. You have a good dozer man with Jerry… Good dozer men are a dying breed, not many of us left. This is the first and only video I can think of I’ve commented on. God Bless and Keep up the Good Work. Big lesson here on how a boss relates to a pro working a job. Inform the Pro about the finished goal, listen to their thoughts, if any, then stand back and let them do it. The immature boss will start telling the pro the technique he should use. The pro is thinking "Kid, I know 5 or 6 ways of how we might do this, and once I start, I might even come up with even a better way" "Kid, do me a favor and starting thinking about how you are going to get me a lunch and something cool to drink while I get this job done." Great job filming DP, it is like we are right there working the levers with you.

I used to clear swamps for international airports. I used a D6R LGP for most of it. I did nearly the same thing Jerry did. Walled good material and pushed the wall along bit by bit. Saved many a turtle and snake by making little pockets for them to escape out of. I would typically leave a wet trench to parts of the swamp that would remain. The snakes, fish, and turtles would use them like highways to wiggle along to the deeper swamp areas. Wish I had a smart phone back then to record it all. Lol

Grew up working for my Dad doing this kind of work in north west central Texas. Jerry is a pro on that machine. Keep the machine on good, solid dirt and machine will keep working. The problem most people have is lack of patience. They push in too far and then they are stuck. Keep that dry dirt working in front of you and it will work great. We did it all with dozers. The track hoe is a real addition to the process. You guys work well together. Looks like that tank could be dug much deeper. The original builders made a major mistake in not taking the top soil off of the area where the dam was built. That pond never had a chance to hold water higher than that level. The material that was used for the dam would bond and seal with that top soil. I am enjoying your videos, can’t wait to see the finishing skills you guys have. Keep on making the dirt (mud, LOL) roll!
