It's refreshing to get style advice from a guy with a similar body type as myself. I have the wide hips and big thighs as well, even got a sloping shoulder on the same side lol. (Btw mine got that way from wearing shoulder bags always on the same side for a few too many years, so it got compressed slowly over time. Dunno if you have a different reason for yours being that way, but thought I'd just mention it just in case you dunno why your shoulders are uneven, then this could be a reason for that.) Difference with my body type though is that my other shoulder does not slope at all and my chest is small. But over all I think what fits you would generally look good on me too. So whenever I like something you're wearing I don't have to overthink if it could look good on me as well. One thing though: I've always found that belts actually help make my hips look narrower, but only if I wear the belt in my waist or otherwise above the widest point. Because as my waist is slimmer, adding width to it takes away from the width of my hips. Waistcoats also have a similar effect, giving my body a more rectangular appearance. Usually jackets fit me off the rack, but pants and longer waistcoats are a whole different story. Getting clothes that fit me would have been much more expensive if I hadn't learned how to sew.
@2pakiMakabeli7 жыл бұрын
2.48 My friend, I haven't commented on youtube videos in years but this time I had to. You said your right shoulder is higher than the left, this is not natural, it's not genetics. Being wider on one side than the other is genetics, being higher means you've been leaning on the right shoulder more and the hip alignment is no longer level. You can correct this by seeing an oesteopath. I've done this plenty of times. They will straighten your hips which will bring your shoulders down again and make it level. They'll also correct the spine. You can actually do stretches to see if this is true, for example your toe might reach further down the other when lying down with the feet facing forward/down. One of the benefits of keeping fit, you can change things of your body. I had the same problem thinking it's genetics because bodies aren't suppose to be symmetrical however this can be corrected.

I found your channel as I need to replace a suit I gave away since I gained 45 lbs. I’m sure I’m not the only person who has problems buying clothes off the rack but blazers are not made for anyone with a big chest and normal waist. Don’t get me started on pants where I need to go up 2-4 inches to get them to fit in the thigh. This is manageable for street clothes but business formal clothes actually need to fit well.

I have the same issue. Try to go with either oversized t-shirts/sweaters if you're going for a casual look or tightly fitting clothes with sometimes a bit of a stretch when going for a less sloppy look. If you're going for a suit you're going to have a hard time: either go for expensive brands that have a lot more types of jackets (slimmer around the waist than usual) or get a cheaper one adjusted at a tailor. Hope I helped at least a bit :)
@carltrotter76224 жыл бұрын

@meph9197 жыл бұрын
This! Going for natural, soft shoulders in suits is still a great tip though. I switched over because the regular padded shoulders make me look ridiculous. I would also advise sizing up, skipping overly slim fitting suits and going for pleated trousers to anyone coming into suiting from an athletic background.
@TheHanspeter87 жыл бұрын
If you don't have a skinny lower body while also having a big upper body you are not an inverted triangle but more likely to be rectangular/trapezoid. Depending on what sport you play or what lifting routine you have you might develop imbalances that make you look odd but you usually can make a "naturally" triangular body be more "rectangular" through targeted training.
@supernoodles9086 жыл бұрын
Ethan I agree. It's annoying dressing for myself
@David-ud9ju6 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure that bodybuilders would disagree with having big legs makes you a rectangle. Your lower body has nothing to do with whether you're a triangle or inverted triangle or rectangle or whatever; it's all upper body. You seem to be thinking that a triangle is wide in the upper body and narrow in the lower body, but it's actually wide in the shoulders and narrow in the waist.
@Shinyfilm6 жыл бұрын
Unless you specifically a bodybuilder, which is to say active trying to keep you waist small, your erectors and obliques will build up over time giving a more trapezoid frame. It’s still very difficult to dress for more extreme examples of this body type, but it not as challenging. (As a powerlifter I still need to go MTM, but I’m definitely more trapezoid than triangle.)

My body type is the trapazoid and man, do I have problems having suits off the shelf, can't afford measured suits at this stage. I get the jacket to fit my chest and I have this massive excess material on my belly. Or it fits my chest and is wide on my shoulders or vice versa and the trousers you get with the jacket are always too big. If I get a suit that will mix and match, the trousers that fit my waist are usually too tight on my thighs, so I'm restricted to how far I can move my leg, anything more than a walk, forget it, sitting, pants pull on my thighs.. Problems, problems, problems.. 😀

Very cool video. I took notes. Thank you for posting. Is there any sort of sleeve style that is best for people with broad shoulders & thick arms? My brother has broad shoulders, large arms, & is "stronger in the midsection". He has a hard time finding jackets that fit over his arms & shoulders. I've read that Raglan style gives more movement but you mentioned that if the arm holes are too large then there are issues with raising the arms up. Is there a modified Raglan or other term for something that has more mobility but is also larger to accommodate thick arms?

I love skinny pants to show off my thick legs... At least now know not the best for me, but there are days I need to feel, you know. Though now wonder if this is why I love wearing boots, subconsciously knew. If wanted to dress nicer, so that means double breasted, would larger diameter tube pants help? I have an early '50s double breasted calk strip suit and has large tube legs and a proper waist (sits on the natural) and think its balanced. Certainly get compliments. Thank you.
