Piece of advice for anyone who is getting into watches, never buy fake or copy watches, try to find a similar watch from a known but cheaper brand, Casio has great divers for very affordable prices, and if you want to get a little more luxurious, Seiko or Tissot are great options, especially Seiko for a sub 500$ (not cheap but also not 9000$), Seiko's mechanical GMT watch feels like something Bond would actually wear, I would highly recommend that instead of a homage/copy/fake watch.
@fansofst.maximustheconfess82265 ай бұрын
Yup, Seiko's great divers are absolutely amazing! I own one of their limited Prospex LX Spring Drive Titanium timepieces. I'd openly say, one of those beats the Rolex or OMEGAs any day (and I own one of both as well). Highly recommended! You can get them at almost 50% at a discount nowadays.
@lankeastor5124 күн бұрын
I'll add that Citizen also makes some very stylish divers in the $300 range that harken back to the Pierce Brosnan-era Omegas (blue dial). They're a little busier than the Seikos, however, so YMMV. It's a shame Crown and Caliber shut down. They were a great site to get second-hand luxury watches. I happened to pick up an early 2000's Omega 300M on the site a few years ago, and it's been rock solid. Also built like a tank.

Great recommendations! I think you're really optimizing for a good mix of affordability and (decent) quality. I'm sure some Bond purists might complain, but in reality, the character of Bond wears Tom Ford and Omega because they pay him to. Ian Fleming was a bon vivant himself and a lot of his tastes made it into the Bond books, but the literary bond was never a flashy high end brand victim. He liked nice things, not expensive things. That's why I think a modern day Fleming's bond wouldn't be wearing 2000 dollar TF cardigans either. It's product placement driving those decisions. (Looks great though!)

Fit is king and you can get tailored quality for very little these days. My tailored suit cost £250, but I only wear that when a suit is required, I prefer a odd jacket for regular use, I got a Hardy AmiesTweed Sports coat for £15 at a second hand store. it needed about £80 of tailoring in 2 separate session - As it was thrift and old, I had half the shoulder pads removed (As it was made in the early 80s) as well as the shoulder length shortened by half an inch, and adjusted for a smaller shoulder pad, just to make it look a bit more modern. Then a few years later, due to losing about 30 pounds had it re adjusted to fit better. Its been my go-to Sports jacket paired with jeans and chinos for the best part of 10 years and it still looks like a new product. My other goto jacket is a Gieves & Hawkes Navy Sports Coat - Tailored to fit, cost £30 on Ebay and about £25 on tailoring, it was nearly spot on, just the arm length was a little long. I do have some expensive items, like Barbour, Belstaff, Burberry, Baracuta (yes they all begin with a B) But the cheap and cheerful, tailored to fit gets far more wear time and yes, when i feel good, I do feel a little bit like James Bond, seeing Bond as a character was pretty much my first style icon at 15 (The GoldenEye DB5 outfit was the first I adopted, but on the cheap, raided my dads wardrobe for most of it, like a blue shirt & Navy cable-knit jumper, already had the beige chinos, just needed cheap brown brogues from shoezone and a steel watch - Casio MTP from Argos to complete the look, thats how I got started)

Hockerty has a great suit crafting application. I made my own version of the Spectre Tom Ford three piece suit in a charcoal herringbone (the one worn by Craig at the funeral was black herringbone), with all sorts of high end features for a little over £325. Currently, I’ve designed copies of the Brunello Cuccinielli Brown linen jacket and the Massimo Alba Sloop (they have a lovely micro-cord fabric). Ted Baker and Loake are great brands that have the look, quality and fit for a bit less. Also, look at Vinted. I got a pair of black Crockett and Jones chukkas for £50.

I wasn’t upset when, as a life-long Bond fan, saw Craig in jeans. I was just shocked that Bond was finally wearing something practical and applicable to nearly all of what he often must do! It’s only happened a few times in the series, ever… his bomber outfit in For Your Eyes Only, his ‘assault suits’ in a few flicks like OHMSS, opening of Goldeneye and TND, etc… If Bond dressed like Borne it would make much much more sense. Wearing formal wear and doing hard core covert (not clandestine…as he almost never does that) work is asinine… I say it as a big fan.

I feel like second hand is the way to go with some of these pieces over fast fashion alternatives like Coofandy, just because second hand quality menswear is in much lower demand than more streetwear-ish brands. I was actually inspired by the Quantum cardigan look myself. Between ebay and goodwill I went with a Brooks Brothers cardigan (no shawl collar but still a really nice piece), some clarks desert boots in brown leather, textured David Donehue button up, and some Ralph Lauren dungarees. All together I have to estimate it was around 62 dollars for the whole look.

Interesting you mention the need for tailoring, in the first set I looked at the shirts and thought you're going to have to get that tailored to have any hope of looking like that. If I'm careful with most purchases I can get the fit I want off the shelf. But that goes out the window when buying a suit, I've never been able to find one off the rack, without tailoring, that fits like a suit should. Which eliminates chain outlets and pushes me to shop at high end men's stores for suits where you have some hope of finding a sales person that knows what they're doing.

As an omega loving college student, I have experience with Pagani Design as a watch brand. The materials and "value" you get for money is unmatched by other brands, but I have had hit-or-miss experiences with them. I have a blue Seamaster homage from them that looks absolutely stunning. However, about a year into ownership the energy in the spring system started lasting less. If I stop walking for a few hours at most, the watch will start falling minutes behind. The quartz daytona on the other hand has kept ticking reliably although the feel on the buttons is not great. Thesis: Pagani Design is probably the best way to rotate through watches for cheap, but they can feel a little crude and don't seem to last for many years.
@Gent.Z11 ай бұрын
H, that's interesting to hear, thank you. Perhaps a brand like Seiko would offer better value for money in this case even if they do not have a style that is so visually similar to the Seamaster. At least the quality is very dependable

The bespoke offering from John Lobb of London is somewhat costly. Somewhat remarkably there are some made to measure options rather than fully bespoke. I gather there are some online where you get some of the advantages of a fully bespoke shoe such as hand welted fiddle back soles etc. and the ability to pick the materials but they are made in places where labor costs are cheaper. China or India. I think one of the people whose family owns the Carmina shoe company in Spain went to China and trained people there to make high end shoes. Today I wore a 20 euro discounted medium grey blue button down shirt with a button down collar from C&A, a 35 euro brown knitted tie from Suitable (NL), a 39 euro dark blue merino wool sweater from Uniqlo, a well worn pair of black slim fitting chinos from C&A and a discounted 39 euro peacoat from C&A made from recycled PET bottles and my 149$ dark brown chukka boots from Thursday Boots. And I've never looked more expensively dressed, because the whole ensemble fits my body well and looks great put together.

There are many good countries of origin or assembly when it comes to men’s clothes. I’ve always preferred American or British made. Would love to see a video on that. It is very hard, if not impossible, to find men’s clothing made in Britain or America, that doesn’t cost you an Aston-Martin or a Corvette ZR-1.

One detail you missed about the last outfit is that the shirt has cocktail cuffs (you can see them in the still of DC drinking). They are hard to find though :(

I have a gray check suit from Banana Republic that's a dead ringer for the one Bond wore, so I got lucky there. The tab collar shirt is OOS on Amazon though, and is $95 on the PF website. Does anyone have another source?

@Gent.Z There are definitely alternatives that are as close as can be at a 10th of the price . Heavily into my Oudh scents.

I struggle to wear black sweaters or cardigans over white shirts. They always leave lints, no matter what material.

Truth: The clothes James Bond wears costs 10 times more than what a real spy wears.

don’t forget that he wore turnbull & asser shirt most of the time, and this is the only few remaining bespoke shirts from england and still made in england

For you, that suit is beautiful, I love the blue. but… I’m telling you… take a beautiful, Classic women with you the next time you go to buy your next pair of glasses. You can totally raise your look, with a better pair of glasses. I’m thinking a great pair of wire in blue Or tortoise shell glasses would look great on you. 👏👏👏

Thank you! I have been considering getting a few more pairs of specs lately. My beautiful girlfriend helped me choose my current pair but I think something a little more eye-catching could be better for me.

I think James Bond's gray suit in in QUantum of Solace is awesome, but think the tailoring was a bit too tight for him in that movie.

Very nicely made video - Fashion is about coordination of fabric, fit and fitness . Anyone can look good with the right mix. Labels and Price Tags are a personal prerogative.
