It’s also worth noting that straps and zippers have been a part of the gothic/industrial aesthetic for a long time. In that scene, torn and tattered clothes are often paired with military inspired motifs. CIVARIZE, a Japanese label based out of Shibuya 109 Men’s, is a good example of this. I personally feel that mixing the two styles is interesting, even if it goes against the contemporary techwear ethos. Of course, I wouldn’t wear it in truly adverse conditions

Just for those who are interested: there are 3 ways the Japanese language is written in, Hirigana, Katakana, and Kanji (sometimes). Kanji is just the chinese alphabet repurposed for the Japanese language, the more commonly used writing styles is Hirgana (for tradional Japanese words) and Katakana (for foreign or foreign sounding words). He uses Katakana and maybe Hirigina in his merch. (Just to let you know)

regarding the vests - there's books to be written on the tac/gearqueer subject but you'll notice a big difference in usability (even at the cheap end) between assault vests with the pockets sewn in and molle armour carriers that you buy pouches for separately. Flipside is cost, of course. Sidenote if you do end up buying a plate carrier, grab a closed-cell-foam sleeping mat from a camping shop and cut it up to replicate plates, gives the vest some rigidity and really helps fit.

Although I wouldn't wear a majority of his fits, I do give him props for coming up with something unique. Honestly, dressing in 100% techwear aesthetic isn't realistic to me. Especially when I'm out and about with my kids in public and I'm dressed in all black and they're wearing their typical brightly colored kid fits. Hey Antwon, what's your take on technical fabrics like fire retardants/slashproof/abrasion proof fabrics and their use in techwear? Seems like a lot of people focus on the dwr coatings and breathable synthetics, which is practical in everyday life but there are some damn cool materials out there.

I'm not sure how much utility fire-retardant fabric has (how often are you close enough to fire to burn your jacket!?) but fabric strength is something worth looking at for sure. Ripstop for example, depending on its thickness, can be pretty resistant to abrasion. Slash-proof material is a bit more specialist and not something any tech brands (to my knowledge) are incorporating, but I see no reason why not
