This is a very good tutorial. I can't imagine trying to put on Kimono without a tutorial. Wearing Kimono is like wearing a Rubix cube but in a good way. lol

Thank you for putting this video up. I always wondered how to wear a yukata properly. I knew it was a bit different than a kimono. So once again thank you.

Oh my goodness! I was buying many kinmono/obi goods years ago and it is now that i notice that IchiroYa had youtube videos from 15 years ago! I will check out these videos; there's one about the obi fabrics (natural silk, wool, linen, cotton or polyester?)👍 👘

It's practically the same, but you will need a lot of practice, because with a juban all kimonos fit better, especially the collar. Just remember that between the collar and the neck must be a distance of at least three fingers

Yes, you normally have another layer underneath a kimono (a nagajuban).

Depends on which know you're tying. I've read that the Cho-cho Musubi, or butterfly knot, is easy. You may want to try a heko (soft) obi. It's much softer and more flexible than the standard hira obi, but it's REALLY informal.

Yukata are constricting but they are comfortable in their own way. But depending on how you're built the obi can be VERY uncomfortable (that is, if you're bustier) - never slouch.

I'm curious about this, too. I wonder if yukata kitsuke is substantially different if one were to be wearing a kimono for a different season. Not a furisode or anything, but just like a komon type.

Indeed, 'left over right' is important...if I remember correctly, if you dress it right over left, you're dressing someone for their funeral. Does anyone know if my information is correct?

@mekon11 The structure of kimono and hanfu is quite different. By the way, I have never seen chinese women wearing hanfu though we japanese often put on kimono. maybe general chinese don't know even how to put on hanfu. chinese destroyed a traditional clothes by their own hands. manchurian dress is well-known worldwide as "china dress" though it might be disgrace for chinese.

It sorta defeats the purpose of wearing one. You don't really see kimono hemlines dropping and sweeping the floor unless it's a geisha.
