My husband and I both didn’t have a dad around to teach us any DIY. Your channel has helped us a number of times. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

Another helpful video Al. What sets your videos apart from the legion of shouty, “look at me” DIY blogs out there is that you know what you are talking about and can communicate it in a calm, good humoured way. It’s all about imparting skills and knowledge and not about promoting an ego. Keep up the outstanding work!

Wouldn't it better if you had said it's best to drill half a way through with the core drill on the inside and then, once the core drill has been emptied, do the same on the OUTSIDE, to avoid spoiling the brick work etc around the hole in the wall?

I do say that but nearer the end.

If you can work out the thickness of the wall you’re drilling (usual you can measure it by a door or window through the same wall) then mark this same depth with a bit of tape on the drill bit. This way you know at what point to switch off the hammer action and use rotate only on the SDS. Sometimes like with old pebble render that has blown, it’s virtually impossible to avoid sometimes quite large blowout. In this situation, consider is it easier to patch up the internal surface - so dill in instead. A good example of when drilling in may be better is when the internal walls are dot-and-dab plasterboard. You can usually feel when you’ve reached the final void just behind the plasterboard, so you can then take it really easy (unless you’re unlucky and come in right where there’s a blob of plasterboard adhesive, but if you tap the internal wall where you plan to come through, you can usually hear if it’s hollow at that point). A sheet of plasterboard is much softer than the face of a brick and therefore unlikely to blow out at all.
