Will this allow me to drill all the way thru a 6x6 in 1 pass (with a long enough bit)? Doing a cable rail project.
@BradAngove2 жыл бұрын
You may have to remove the spring to allow it to compress that far, but if you do that I think you might be ok. At least you would get most of the way through and the holes would act as a guide to finish off.

I have one of those I got off Amazon, but haven't used it yet.. I have used to great success the Big Gator V-drill guide for drilling neck mounting screw pilot holes.
@BradAngove3 жыл бұрын
Ya that’s a good guide for that. Great idea.
@ms22401gal3 жыл бұрын
I recently bought both tools. I’ll be testing them out for installing 10 threaded inserts and accompanying bolts. I’m thinking one big positive for the Milescraft is you can clamp it down, so holes are perfectly centered and aligned if running different operations. For example, pilot hole, then forstner bit, through hole, etc. Switch out the bits, set your depth stop with a digital caliper or better yet pre-made spacers if running same operations for multiple holes. Should all bore dead center and to proper depth.
@paintbox483 жыл бұрын
I have one similar to this - except with mine you clamp the whole drill into the top, and use the chuck already in the drill. It is good for simple jobs, and can be lifted horizontal to use in doors etc. The only problem I have is when wishing to drill into uneven surfaces such as a carved guitar top. I guess there is always a solution to be found!
@BradAngove3 жыл бұрын
Ya, for that you would probably want to either use a drill press or find a way to suspend this over top of the guitar.
@electricblue732 жыл бұрын
can you use this to drill new guitar neck holes? I have a new guitar neck that needs holes and I don't have a drill press.
@BradAngove2 жыл бұрын
This is an option if you have a way of resting the base of this flat on it. Otherwise you may just want to use a bit guide.

Brad - Thanks for demonstrating the Milescraft 1318 Drillmate Drill Guide w/Chuck. I don’t lack the funds for a full size drill press. I don’t have the current circumstance for warehousing a drill press. The Drillmate looks like it’s going to let me drill the ferrules for my semi hollow arch top build. BTW, I used your link above. Hopefully you’ll see the return on that.

This is cool, I've been up in the air about purchasing a Harbor Freight drill press for drilling PCB for my effects pedals circuits. HF drill press takes up quite a bit space for occasional use. If they make one to fit a Dremel would be even better. Thanks Brad.

I NEE HELP ! Is it ok to put minwax wipe on poly on the neck and fretboard on a 1 piece maple neck. Im not worried about getting stuck because i play slow. Im interested in durability and beauty with minimal wear on the fretboard. I used the poly on the body and liked the look so i wanted to continue onto the neck i just needed to know the pros and cons of an entire poly neck and what to expect thank you in advance.
@BradAngove3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can do that. Get your frets polished up nicely first so that you can remove the poly from then when you do it.

Another interesting vid, I feel more comfortable drilling into my kits now. Side question: how does Nitro warm/age a paint job compared to other lacquers or is that a myth?
@onpsxmember3 жыл бұрын
Nitrocellulose finishes age cause they aren't UV-resistant. It cracks, white yellows and some get darker too. Softer colours may appear warmer. That's how that ice-tea tone of certain LP's is created, that's why Angus' SGs look black and not red anymore. The magic is in the fingers. That's just my 2 cents.
@BradAngove3 жыл бұрын
Ya, nitro will age, yellow, crack, etc. It is affected by uv light and changes in temperature.
@Surmoka3 жыл бұрын
An ask here if you don't mind. I got myself this thing, the Milescraft one. She could be a skookum choocher because the construction and materials are relatively robust. However, the bit on the top what is intended to be put in the drill chuck seems to be bent at the root, as witnessed by my drill with a nicely centered chuck causing the whole rack thing to weeble-wobble and shake around with each turn. I'd like to straighten that thing out. How should I approach the problem?
@BradAngove3 жыл бұрын
Yikes; that’s a tough one. I would suggest returning it for another. I’m concerned that the bearings may encounter issues if you need to straighten it right back down at the root. With that said, a vice comes to mine as the likely option. Perhaps you can mostly crush it straight.

Make sure you spend the money and get a good one. I bought a cheaper Chinese copy off of Amazon and it was a piece of crap. You could adjust the angle but there were no detents so you never really knew if you were perfectly vertical. It also had a plastic base so there was a little drift.
@BradAngove3 жыл бұрын
