How to drill the rear caliper when de-linking the brakes on a VFR800

This video explains where to drill in the center piston bore to connect all three pistons together on the VFR800 rear caliper. It also explains how to block off the center piston's banjo fitting.
This was done on a 5th gen (1998-2001), but the 6th gen (2002-2013) uses almost exactly the same caliper so this process should be the same for those years.

So choosing a drilling bit that that fits right in the hole is the logical choice?

I did this mod and was not very happy with it. I rebuilt the calipers several times with new seals slides pins etc. What I noticed that one of the pistons would hang back while 2 pushed out. It warped my rotors. I tried the stock master and then upgraded to a larger one to no avail. I installed F3 fork legs with Nissin 4 piston calipers that cured everything. There is nothing wrong with the linked braking except the long tedious bleeding process. Also you need to upgrade the rear master to get it to work right which I never did because I only use the fronts.

This video just shows the rear caliper since I swapped cbr600f4i forks onto my VFR, so I'm not using the stock VFR front calipers. Did you have problems with the rear caliper, or just the fronts? With the rear, the two outside pistons move together so the force should be evenly distributed on the pads. Assuming the fronts have the same setup, if there was uneven wear on the pads (or even warped rotors) then I would think there was some kind of blockage in the passage between two of the pistons.

@@keithkostol5418 No blockage tore down the calipers several times for the front. I agree rear works somewhat and with a F4 front end could not be happier nevertheless I was less than satisfied with the stock 3 piston caliper delink for the front. The Nissin 4 pistons calipers are superior not as good as my Brembos. I am just letting people who do the fronts mite not be satisfied.

Yes, the front calipers are basically the same. I haven't taken them apart yet because I converted to cbr929rr calipers, but the design is the same. If you have a 2002-2013 (6th gen) then they will be a little different, so you'll have to take a look at those when they are apart and compare.

@@keithkostol5418 nice one just done it today was 100% the same idea only was more central my issue with this bike is bleeding the brakes any tips? I tried reverse bleeding I tried everything I can think of I can only guess its air around the abs? I have no idea how I can get this to trigger? I head honda have a special tool for this?

@@KevinMcMillan Sorry, I haven't worked on ABS brake systems before so I don't know how they do it. The procedure should be in the service manual though.
