This is a good video and I love how you are wearing hearing protection but also barefoot. 👍👍

I have watched about 20 of these videos trying to determine where to drill to run cat 6 cable and this is the most helpful so far.

For those wondering, he doesn't mention it, but you'd be better off disabling the hammer drill function when boring through the bottom plate with the long drill bit.

Avoid placement near a receptacle that draws a lot of power i.e. a receptacle used to power heating, cooling, or a motor device as this may cause interference; some use a 16 inch rule between ethernet jack and power receptacle..
@notcseliot Жыл бұрын
Also, (and this is a building code rule for my area) if you HAVE to run ethernet near electrical, cross it PERFECTLY perpendicularly!
@nerfball22210 ай бұрын
@@notcseliot That is a standard rule of power. If you are running DC and you must cross an AC source, you cross at 90 degrees to prevent field effect interference. Or you can use a shielded cat6 but then you need different connectors and that is more of a pain.

Definitely try to stay as far away from the power box and lines to prevent and avoid interference / electrical noise.i recommend sharing a coax drop / box if possible.

Tape ethernet to your drill bit from basement and then pull bit + cable back up.
@DethScarred10 ай бұрын
Very helpful. I was wondering whether to use one of those long flexible drill bits or a 90 degree adapter. I read elsewhere that the gears strip out frequently on the 90 degree adapters.

Watching all those videos about wiring a house with cat6 cable just makes me realize how much money I wasted on buying Ethernet cables considering how easy it is to "make" one yourself. You can buy a 20ft cable for $15...or you can buy a 1000ft for $100 and a couple tools for $30 max. And then it's just a matter of adding a couple dollars in a pack of 50 RJ45 male ends and you've got 25 cables of any length you want. That's already less than $6 per cable and the more you make, the less expensive they get. And unless you've got some crazy wiring to do, 1000ft will probably give you enough cabling for all your needs.

not trying to be rude but it's a very simple process. I stopped on this video by accident looking how to do plaster repair, but it is a great video for someone with no experience with this type of home project.

That worked much better than I expected, my walls are plaster and eats the teeth off drywall blades on my oscillating tool Cutting wheels on grinders are super strong I'll give this a try for sure!

Jesus…. You drilled next to an outlet with no consideration of what was behind the wall - electrical wires, plumbing, sewer. NEVER drill blind into a wall. ALWAYS use a stud finder that can detect electrical wiring. ALWAYS make sure you are extremely careful if bathroom plumbing is likely inside wall. And if drilling blind like this guy, at least mark your drill bit the width of the drywall so you don’t drill further without knowing the pipes or wires are behind.

@nlack136 ай бұрын
That’s what a stud finder is for that can detect electrical wiring. If you can afford a $30 scope you can afford a decent stud finder. He drilled blind before he ever used his scope. Amateur action. Knocking on a wall is worse than using magnets. At least with magnets you can be quite certain of a stud presence with enough nails detected. But knocking could fool you is a pipe of wood spacer is knocked on.

He had to drill a (first) hole to insert that camera....doesn't take much to nick an electrical wire, plumbing is a bit more resistant.
