So even though it looks like 260ft, it’s really only 254…got it. Guess I’ll have to send it. Please do more of these! You are as good describing and teaching as you are sending cliffs! As someone who strives to be doing what you’re doing in a few years, this stuff is massively helpful. I have such a hard time getting consistent on jumps. Some I can send perfect, others I feel likely to flip.

You should make a video like this focusing on the larger cliffs, ie. 30+ feet. I think that'd be really helpful

The skill-level deconstruction of your approach is fascinating. Depending on how much time you have to devote to such things, more technical breakdowns of specific jumps could be a fun way to drive traffic from your Instagram to KZbin...

Personally I really need to focus on the arms forward part because I usually Windmill and it brings my center of gravity up, in addition to causing a flailing motion 😅

Step One: Find a jump. Step Two: Jump off of it. Step Three: There's no step three. Quite jealous of skiers like the aptly-named Mr. Leeper. Have zero ability to recall where the ground is once I leave it so do not catch air. Intentionally. Happens by accident. Will remember the point about punching my hands forward if becoming airborne by mistake. Thank you, keep it up. It's very inspiring to see people with ability do what they do.

It is also fun to practice off a cornice.
@brazilianambassadordale8223
@brazilianambassadordale8223 3 жыл бұрын
For me, they were definitely good for practicing a proper n strong pop that gets you leaning forward enough for a jump. It's always been deceptively hard to remember to pop when I was on a big drop because of fear. I remember I had a bad habit of either popping too late, popping just a tiny amount and pulling my legs in (which is good if the take off is particularly steep), or not popping at all on anything over 10 feet, especially if conditions are icy. I used to freeze up, panic, and lose focus. It may not hurt if you mess up a lil on such a drop, but a cornice drop with a steep landing forces you to do it, cause if you don't, you wipe out on your ass. You can also do park jumps if they're of a reasonable size. They can also better help you train for air time.
@proverbalizer
@proverbalizer 4 ай бұрын
exactly. An d the lack of rock makes it a lot less intimidating, even though a good size cornice drop can be bigger than smaller rock drops. Also you usually have a nice steep transition under a cornice.

What do you do if you're in a resort, and checking the depth isn't very realistic?
@O_leeps
@O_leeps 4 жыл бұрын
Depending on the height i still check the depth at the resort. If it's small and it snowed 10" overnight, you can be pretty sure there is at least 10" in the landing. I usually hit it small first, then go bigger if it worked out. Good Luck.

How big a toll does this take on your knees? I'm keen to get into some cliff jumps but my knees already get sore sometimes after just a few days skiing with barely any drops, obviously if you mess up and flop that could definitely damage them but what about if you land well on a steep slope, does it still wear on your knees a lot? Or not too bad?

If ur landing at a steep angle with momentum you should be all good
@3MatthewWright3
@3MatthewWright3 2 жыл бұрын
You have to protect yourself and only do things like this when there’s FRESH POWDER, you won’t even feel the landing😁 Make sure the snow isn’t hard packed or ice where you want to land, go where the snow is untouched, once there’s tracks on a rock or cliff the landing is already stomped out and no longer soft

Be sure you are physically ready for it and learn how to keep your balance, even at high speed. Then drop (it's mostly mental), find friends to drop with you and to pressure each other. Finally, just have fun ! (IMO)
