I know this is an older video, but once the blooms are dry, do you have any recommendations to keep them from being fragile and dropping petals when using them in arrangements I love to use my dried hydrangeas at Christmas time

Hi There! You can purchase a floral fixative at craft stores, or use hairspray. My mom had a flower shop and used good old’ VO5 on her dried flowers. Thanks for your question!

Hi, want to give this a try this year. When you speak of a cool, dark spot. Probably a silly question but by dark spot do you mean out of sunlight or dark like a closet? Thank you. 💐

Hi There! Not a silly question at all!! As long as they are out of direct sunlight. The direct sun will bleach the color. Thank you for watching and enjoy your hydrangeas!

I live in Utah and would love to grow one or two plants, I tried once and it didn't survive 😢, we have more clay like soil and not sure if these can do well in container and survive our very cold winter and snowy months. Please advise any advice .TFs this tip for drying . I did just purchase an Easter arrangement with hydrangeas 😊 TfS xoxox

Hi there and thank you for watching! I’m sorry to hear that! Gardening is about trial and error! You may have more luck with planting hydrangeas in a raised bed or a container, where you can control the soil. We do have a video out on raised beds which may help! You can grow hydrangeas in Utah, but I would definitely go to your local nursery and get some info on some hardy varieties for your zone. Knowing your zone is so important!! Thank you again and happy gardening! Link to “Learn Three Advantages of Raised Beds” kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJTOZWBngs2jr80

I have done everything you said to do, and mine still turn brown! Do you ever have that problem? I have also heard and watched people and they say don’t cut until they feel papery on the bush?
@downtoearthgardeninganddesign3 ай бұрын
Hi There and thank you for your questions! The key is to replenish the water until the blooms feel papery- and to make sure that you aren’t cutting them when the shrub is under any stress. My guess is that the hydrangea flowers are still supple when the water evaporates. Another way to do it is to let them dry on the bush, so yes you can also trim them when they are papery. It’s a beautiful year for hydrangeas, so have fun with them and experiment! Happy gardening!

Are there ways to safely dye the dried hydrangeas?? Love ur hydrangeas, and the tutorial💐 Thank you!!

Hi There! Thank you for watching! Since I grow many hydrangea varieties, I have not yet tried dying them. I do however spray them and use them in winter wreaths and container displays! There’s so many options with hydrangeas! Please keep me posted if you decide to dye hydrangeas, and stay tuned. Thank you! 🙏

Great video! What do you mean by "spray them" by the way? With water? Or something else?
@downtoearthgardeninganddesign Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Water based spray paints that come in different colors and have a fast drying time. They can be found at craft stores or anywhere that you can buy floral design supplies. Happy gardening…and crafting! 😊
