Great idea! My mother told me decades ago about newspaper for wet shoes - works a treat! Like you I’m a hoarder of anything that “may come in useful one day” so I have some silica bead bags. I also, for some reason, always have three odd socks left over! Even after I wear holes in the heels of new socks there always seem to be three slightly different socks left after pairing! I’ll give them a try and let you know.

Very useful. I went swimming in a nearby lake at the weekend. Rather cold, but I absolutely loved being in the water again after having to self isolate. So lovely swimming with cootes and swans. The RSPB allow respectful swimmers in this lake and I will now join the RSPB.

Yeah I’ve used newspaper for 34 yrs on shoes, sneaks, boots. A 14 yo guy whose father was a Postmaster knew of this and both told me about it. You can reuse the newspaper too. Works amazing and is like a sponge drawing out all the wetness. Maybe a fan to get the gloves dry?

Newspaper works a treat but I don’t get a free one anymore and less people I know read them. 34 years of dedication to wet-footed activities is a great commitment to the cause 🤪🏊‍♀️

Rachel this is brilliant!! I cannot get my canoeing gloves (which I use for swimming) to dry out in the fingers. I want to store them away until I need them in the Autumn. I just made sushi this past weekend and can you guess what comes in the packages of nori???? YEASS... those little silica bead packages. I am going to try putting them inside my gloves and see if the fingers dry out. Thank-you so much for this awesome advice. PS - when you got onto the silica beads section in the video I was like “now why didn’t I think of that?” 🧤😃

You could also put thin rolls of cardboard into each finger..

Having wrecked the spinner on the washing machine drying my wetsuit, I now dry it by compression. You need 1beach towel folder folded in half lengthwise, and a smaller for acting as the jam inside as you fold the wetsuit, beach on outside, smaller towel inside, them just stand on the near foot square contents. Repeat for turning wetsuit inside out. In wet days, Hang out the outside of back door slightly open to protect from rain. Dry for next day. Boots and socks etc all compressed too, roll small towel into gloves, then compress within towel. Just wash said towels.

@@gmcelroy1967 Thanks for this tip… every little bit of info and experience is helpful and appreciated. I don’t swim in a wetsuit but I will try this technique with my gloves when the lakes freeze over and swimming is over until Spring time. Thanks again, and have a great weekend. 🌎💦Ⓜ️ary🏊‍♀️

So fab that you sew Rach - I can see how talented you are - do you ever hand sew? I wonder if you ever knit your own post swim scarf/gloves or hat? It's just brilliant that you have a sporty active and also a creative side to you - both come across well in your video content :)

Google says: Remove desiccant pod from container and bake, screen side up, for 1 hour at 200 degrees, or until beads return to orange/yellowish tint. Repeat if the beads have not returned to original orange/yellowish tint. Allow to cool for 20 minutes. We tried it in the microwave but the heat of the beads shattered the glass bowl!
