I don't paint many power swords but I'm so glad I watched this vid and it'll work wonders on some of my NMM work on armour and especially weapons High end, eye popping results, fully revealed process, warts and all - show the wart, fix the wart, wart gone. Real painting, to a high standard with proven accessible technique, but that's not the best part, it's all the whys and the thinking that you get to hear whilst you're seeing that brush doing the job that makes these tutorials next level. Then just as others have said, that idea of testing what the brush is doing on the soft and sharp edges of the base (that there even is a soft and sharp test edge there on every base - why have I never joined the dots on that? How many thousand bases have I seen over the years?), whilst preparing to lunge at the highest stakes proposition of edge highlighting a totally exposing focal point on the model....... that just changed my game. Now I'll never again put brush to model without reassuring myself on the relevant base edge - that's a gift that'll keep on giving forever, and it's a gift of reassurance at the "oh shit - I need a cup of tea before I go for it" moment What a hero, may all your risky, high end conversions turn out better than you'd ever envisioned, and may all your eyes turn out spot on, first time! ;0)

Thanks very much for your kind words, dude! We'll be definitely covering some batch painting in the near future, actually, I think I can do a pretty good job with it as it's where I cut my teeth as a miniature painter. I love getting obsessive about efficiency. You absolutely can, I just tend to do a light drybrush with a dark version of the colour required e.g. dark green. Then do a very soft white drybrush close to the light source and glaze luminous/very bright versions of the colour e.g luminous green over that white.😊

Another great tutorial. I quite like using the "traditional" glaze method for this, but this looks just as good with a lot less swearing involved! I'd kinda like to see how you approach infantry other than marines, like Imperial guardsmen. Keep up the great work, these are really helpful, many thanks

Hi, I just wanted to say thanks for this video, even over a year and a half later. I've been thinking about making a vibrant pink power sword - do you have any advice on the best paints to go about that? I've noticed that Vallejo squid pink doesn't necessarily have the best coverage over darker primers

This is awesome and I'd love to see you do more effects with Series D. Like, do you think you could do heat bloom on a meltagun? Also, and this is a total side note, I'd love to see you do some really grimy models at some point, maybe even grimdark style but definitely something like orks would be really cool to see how you would tackle them - I think an ork boy would be much more challenging to do with series D than a space marine, and ork vehicles would probably just be really fun to do to be fair.
@ArtisOpus
@ArtisOpus 3 жыл бұрын
These are all brilliant suggestions.🤩Heat bloom is particularly interesting, I'll definitely give that some thought. I don't think it's possible but I thought that in the past about power swords. I've actually tried grimdark a couple of times and just end up painting exactly as I normally do by the end of the model😅I think what I need to do is 100% follow someone else's tutorial at least on the first attempt.

Rookie painter here. I so appreciate your style of instruction and the time you put in. I apologize if this an ignorant suggestion but as I’m a Star Wars fan boy I would love a video similar to this but for lightsabers on legion models. Most of the techniques I see are somewhat boring and just don’t pop as much as something like what you have done for power swords. Thanks again.

Not a bad idea man, you could absolutely just do a light-dark version (perhaps with one 'reflective' line down one side *or* a varnish to make it catch light?

"with edge highlighting one thing you can do is test it on the edge of your base"... You sir have blown my mind... It's a little thing but rest assured I'll be doing that on my next edge highlight job. Not gonna lie I saw the thumbnail and went "nah there's no way he did that with drybrushing". I tip my hat to you sir... in an unrelated note... What ever happened to the wheel of fortune? ;)

Haaa, the wheel may have to come out some time soon, the video didn't go down hugely well, maybe we just need to have 50k subs or something to give it a better first few days! It really is a great tip, all about cocking up somewhere that isn't my model! :D
