Hi, thanks for the great tutorial. But to note, this process you described is not working for ubuntu 22.04. I think you have already made a newer version of the installation for 22.04, I highly recommend seeing that instead for anyone who came across this first. Since many might not read this entire text, just in case, make sure not to throw away the USB you use. It was very helpful in case you mess up the revert back procedure. Please take note of all resources and, follow proper installation procedure, take help from someone with knowledge of this process. A few of the main issues faced by me were 1) We need to perform disk shrinking to free up space for the dual boot if we wish to do it in SSD- something I tried and faced a problem with since simply trying shrink volume wasn't working. And if someone wished to proceed with HDD itself for the ubuntu system, leaving windows in SSD altogether, it did work. 2) Dual boot installation of ubuntu 22.04 asks for the creation of a key for secure installation of third-party software, I guess. After the installation, during the first reboot, a MOK screen appears asking for 4 options. I couldn't find any information regarding this. Also, the screen freezes here. I had to manually reboot it with the power button. Then the MOK screen closes automatically in 10 seconds. There is a lag while using ubuntu in HDD, which is not explained clearly on any site. 3) If someone wishes to uninstall ubuntu, the steps suggested in the video might not always work. Especially if someone is dual booting ubuntu in HDD (which I tried), after the partition, the rest of the HDD and ubuntu allocated space are separated by EFI system partition. So if someone tries to delete the volume of ubuntu, they shall not be able to merge it back into the rest of the HDD due to the EFI partition in between. This is really important to note: (and thanks to the creator for having mentioned this in the video) if you don't follow the steps (even if you successfully merge back the partitions into one), it shall result in a grub error unless you follow all the instructions to properly get rid of the ubuntu partitions. I made this mistake by trying to reboot since I believed I wiped out the partition and the rest would be undisturbed, but I ran into the GRUB error anyways. There are a few fixes mentioned on the internet, but they are quite risky. Some were referring to online partition backup software and so on. One fix mentioned was to install ubuntu (using the USB) back into the partition which was wiped but could not be merged. This was the best fix I could find. I reinstalled ubuntu back by opening the boot option using USB, the same procedure, but the time it takes is way too longer than normal installation. (it doesn't ask for partition since it's already been created and wiped). Luckily I was finally able to get back to the dual boot setting; I haven't touched ubuntu since. I've been using only windows. I hope to completely revert back to pure windows by removing ubuntu completely, hopefully with the help of an expert, and doing it safely. One wrong step and the computer could never be recoverable. Always create a backup for these situations, and always take help from someone experienced. Sorry for the very long comment.

@skepticjoe093 жыл бұрын
Great and concise tutorial!! However, I wish to shed light upon a few issues that might pop up if the machine is in UEFI mode. (i) Make sure that the disks allocated in windows are not bit encrypted. If its not decrypted, then the install along with windows option won't function as the access to the disks will be denied. You can enable/disable encryption from the start menu in windows and you can check if its done via the disk management window. (ii) Turn off the secure boot so that the additional drivers can be installed without any interruptions .Otherwise, one has to set a password before reboot and enroll MOK while rebooting after installation [which can be avoided if secure boot is turned off :) ] Rest everything should go smooth as shown in this tutorial. :)

Caution:- if your ssd is running on RAID mode then ubuntu won't detect the drive. You have change it to AHCI from RAID mode and that would require reinstallation of windows.

Problem: In my HP Pavilion, after installing the Ubuntu alongside windows 10, there is no GRUB menu at the start up. Directly Windows 10 is opening! Solution: 1. Always show the GRUB menu at start up so that I can choose what OS to load: 1. Keep on pressing F10 at start up to open the “BIOS Setup”. 2. Go to the “Boot Options” tab. 3. Go to the “UEFI Boot Order” section. 4. Click on the “OS Boot Manager” option. 5. Adjust Ubuntu on the top of Windows 10 using F5, F6 keys. 6. Press F10 to save the preference. 7. Press F10 followed by “Yes” to save the change and exit. Note: In future, if you want Windows 10 to boot by default, just adjust Windows 10 on the top of Ubuntu. 2. Let windows 10 be loaded by default, I will do some keyboard-jugglery whenever I want to show the GRUB menu (My preference): 1. Keep on pressing F9 at start up to open the “Boot Menu”. 2. Select Ubuntu and press Enter.

Hi, thanks for the awesome video! It works on windows 11 as well like a charm! I have successfully installed the ubuntu 20.04 on my new computer as a dual boot. But I have a small question: I have a separate HHD in my machine (system are on SSD). How could I safely mount it on my ubuntu system? (There’s no data in it and I wouldn’t want to use it in windows.) Thanks in advance!

it will be mounted automatically, but add ntfs package using sudo apt install ntfs-3g if the drive is formatted with ntfs

It's mandatory to Select Alongside with Windows 10 in UEFI? Because I believe that it's safer to create a different partition as you did in Legacy Video. Please answer ASAP.

I tried to dual boot ubuntu 20.04 and windows 10 on my Asus zephyrus g14 2021 model. Followed all your steps but after installing ubuntu, it shows a black screen. I tried all solutions by searching on the internet but nothing works. Can you please provide a video with all steps of dual booting on the Asus zephyrus G14 model? It would be very helpful.
